Egypt’s Sisi inaugurates a host of national projects in Sinai – Egypt

Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi attended on Saturday the opening ceremony of the King Salman International University in the resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh.

The university comprises 15 faculties distributed among its three branches in El-Tor, Ras Sedr, and Sharm El-Sheikh cities, and can accommodate over 25,000 students, according to a video played during the inauguration. 

The president opened the two other branches in El-Tor and Ras Sedr via video-conference.

Parliamentary body for early completion of Gwadar projects – Pakistan

The Parliamentary Committee on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) emphasized on early completion of ongoing projects at Gwadar pertaining to development of infrastructure, water, health, provision of energy, and security arrangements in view of the importance of Gwadar port.

In an in camera meeting of the CPEC chaired by Sher Ali Arbab after receiving briefing from relevant ministries and departments remarked that Gwadar is the most important component of the CPEC, as the success of the CPEC is linked with the effective operationalisation of Gwadar.

IDE Technologies secures contract for desalination plant in Chile – Chile

IDE Technologies, a global leader in desalination and water treatment, was recently awarded by Aguas PacĂ­fico SpA the EPC contract for the Aconcagua Desalination Plant in Chile.

Mumbai civic body revives plan to set up desalination plant for potable water – India

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) authorities plan to set up a desalination plant near Gorai beach following a growing need for an alternative potable water source due to changing patterns of rainfall.

The desalination plant will purify seawater into potable water.

Maharashtra minister for environment Aaditya Thackeray on Monday gave a go-ahead to the project and has directed the BMC authorities to prepare a feasibility report by reviving the civic body’s 2007 plan.

Al-Sisi directs TSFE to maximise value of state assets – Egypt

Almar water and HA Utilities BV take over key desalination assets in Egypt – Egypt

Almar Water Solutions, Abdul Latif Jameel Energy’s dedicated water solutions unit, and HA Utilities BV (HAU), part of Hassan Allam Holding (HAH), have finalized a deal with the Ridgewood Group, taking ownership of assets with a total desalination capacity of 82,440 cubic meters of drinking water per day, from 58 desalination plants located across Egypt.

The deal was closed under the joint venture between Almar Water Solutions and HA Utilities BV, announced in 2019, and created to provide sustainable water infrastructure solutions to both municipal and industrial clients across Egypt.

The City wants to build a R1.8-billion desalination plant – Cape Town

The City of Cape Town plans to build a permanent desalination plant capable of producing 50-million litres of water per day by 2026. The project will cost R1.8-billion.

The City said that its Water Strategy is already in action as 15-million litres of groundwater is added to the water supply daily via the Table Mountain Group Aquifer.

The strategy also includes other projects like the desalination plant, alien vegetation clearing, the augmentation of the Berg River and water reuse.
