Toray to Supply RO Membrane for Desalination Plants in Bahrain, UAE – Bahrain

Toray Industries has recently announced that it has been awarded orders for the supply of reverse osmosis (RO) membrane for the Al Dur 2 Desalination Plant in the Kingdom of Bahrain and Umm Al Quwain Desalination Plant in the United Arab Emirates.

While the combined water production capacity of the two plants will amass 911,000 m3/day, the Umm Al Quwain Desalination Plant alone will hold one of the world’s largest capacity with 681,000 m3/day fresh water production.

Grino installs a solar-powered desalination system in Cape Coast – Ghana

At least 1,000 people are currently benefiting from a desalination system that has just been installed in the coastal city of Cape Coast, Central Province, Ghana.

This is the result of a pilot project implemented by Grino Water Solutions, a start-up based in Nuremberg, Germany.

The system consists of an 8m3 per day borehole that pumps salt water. It is powered by a photovoltaic solar system consisting of 24 panels.

Purdue-led team named quarterfinalist in DOE solar innovation contest (TDnews) – Indiana

A Purdue University innovator and his team are among the quarterfinalists in a national solar desalination innovation contest.

They received the recognition for a technology to use solar power to purify high salinity water, such as treating desalination brine or produced water from oil and gas extraction.

The team includes two company partners, NiekAab Desal, with efforts led by Ali Amiri, and Focused Sun, with their efforts led by Shawn Buckley.

Egypt to partner with private sector in building four water desalination plants – Egypt

Egypt will announce four new seawater desalination plants in partnership with the private sector in January 2021, the Minister of Finance, Mohamed Maait, said.

A desalination plant will be established in Matrouh’s Hamam City with a capacity of 190,000 cubic metres per day and three other plants will be built in Safaga, El-Quseir, and Marsa Alam with capacities ranging between 20,000 and 40,000 cubic metres per day, Maait added in a statement on Thursday.

It’s a highly debated issue, whether the city of Corpus Christi should construct a multi-million-dollar saltwater desalination plant in the city’s inner harbor.

On Friday, some of our youngest citizens tackled the real-world topic.

They may be third graders, but a group of Windsor Park Elementary students took time to debate the pros and cons of building a desal plant and what it could mean for a future water supply.

Abu Dhabi Investment Office offers startups $41mln in AgTech incentives – United Arab Emirates

The state-run Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) has rolled out $41 million worth of incentives for three agriculture technology (Agri tech) companies under its AgTech Incentive Programme, ADIO’s Director General said.

In April, ADIO had laid out $100 million worth of incentives for four companies – AeroFarms, Madar Farms, RNZ and Responsive Drip Irrigation (RDI).

Tariq Bin Hendi told Zawya that the AgTech Incentive Programme is focused on supporting innovators developing agriculture solutions that are locally relevant and globally exportable.
