Saudi’s SWCC says 7 consortia qualified to compete in Ras AlKhair plant privatisation

Head of Privatization at the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), Ahmad Mohammad Al-Amro, said that seven regional and global companies and strategic consortia have been qualified to compete in the Ras AlKhair plant privatisation.

The plant, under construction by ACCIONA and BESIX, is equipped with energy-efficient Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) technology and is a critical project in the modernisation of the water sector being undertaken by the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA).

ACCIONA is the EPC contractor for Jebel Ali SWRO, which it expects to complete by 2021. The desalination plant will produce 182,000 cu/m of potable water per day, serving a population of 700,000 inhabitants. Its capacity makes it one of the largest desalination plants in the UAE.

ACCIONA to build fifth desalination plant in Saudi Arabia for $384 million – Saudi Arabia

The Saudi publicly-owned Corporation Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) has awarded ACCIONA, and its partner RTCC, the design and construction of the Shuqaiq 1 desalination plant on the Red Sea coast in Saudi Arabia. The contract amount awarded is US $384 million.

The plant, equipped with reverse osmosis technology, will have a daily capacity of 400,000 m3/day.

It will help to improve the supply of drinking water and offset water shortages in south-west Saudi Arabia by providing a new source of potable water.
