New Umm Al Quwain plant to produce 50 million gallons of water in first phase – United Arab Emirates

The first phase of a water desalination plant in Umm Al Quwain, which will produce 50 million gallons of water every day, opened on Thursday.

Built on an area measuring 250,000 square metres, at a cost of Dh2.2 billion, the project is the largest of its kind in the UAE’s northern area.

Once all phases are complete by the end of next year, daily production at the plant is expected to increase to 150 million gallons of water.

Repairs ongoing at Point Lisas Desalination Plant – Caribbean

Repair works currently being carried out at the Point Lisas Desalination Plant should be completed by tomorrow, Friday 10th December 2021, according to an advisory from the Water and Sewerage Authority.

The repairs have necessitated the reduction of the Plant’s output to 25 mgd.

The facility, which is owned and operated by the Desalination Company of Trinidad and Tobago (DESALCOTT), normally supplies WASA with 40 million gallons of water per day (mgd).

BMC scraps dam project, says 4.5 lakh trees saved – Mumbai

The BMC has cancelled the Gargai dam project which will save 4.5 lakh trees.

BMC chief Iqbal Chahal said learning from experiences of the two cyclones, the BMC decided there was no point in cutting down 4.5 lakh trees to build Gargai dam and bring drinking water to Mumbai.

He said BMC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with an Israeli firm, IDE, to set up a desalination plant at Manori to convert 1,800 million litres of seawater daily into potable water.

Saudi’s SWCC outlines its environmental sustainability plan – Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia’s Saline Water Conversation Corporation (SWCC) has revealed its Saudi Green Inititive action plans aimed at improving the environment, combating climate change, and reaching carbon neutrality.

Senior SWCC executives made a presentation revealing the road map to achieving environmental sustainability at a recent forum in London attended by more than 90 global leaders and investors.

SWCC is Saudi Arabia’s institution responsible for the desalination of seawater.

Marin water pipeline plan draws environmental lawsuit – California

A Marin environmental group is suing to block a proposed water pipeline on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, citing the potential harm to endangered fish.

Total Eren has begun studies for the development of a large-scale green hydrogen project in Chile, with a target of 25GW of electrolyser capacity by 2030.
