Saudi’s Jubail 3A desal project work on track for Q4 commercial operation – Saudi Arabia

The facility contains tanks with a capacity of 600,000 cu m and also has a solar unit to produce 44MW power, thus greatly contributing to Saudi efforts to ensure water security

The Saudi Water Partnerships Company (SWPC) has announced that work is moving at a steady pace on the Jubail 3A Water Desalination Project – said to be the first and the largest facility in the world to run on renewable energy – which is set to launch commercial operations by year-end.

Tedagua will develop a digital twin to optimize the management of desalination plants in their O&M contracts – Spain, Europe

  • This digital twin will provide differential added value for the company and our clients, mainly in three aspects: cost optimization, access to information by applying visual intelligence, and increased cybersecurity.
  • Data processing has become so important in the water sector in the last five years, especially in projects related to artificial intelligence, that it requires the development of an appropriate data processing strategy.

The project will be carried out in three phases. A first phase where all the relevant data will be collected and structured during the operation […]

Another California desalination plant approved — the most contentious one yet – USA

The California Coastal Commission voted 8-to-2 despite the ecological risks to the Monterey Bay coast, high costs of the water and a divide between affluent and lower-income communities.

The plant would produce about 4.8 million gallons of water per day when it begins operating, with the possibility of increasing production later. California American Water hopes to have it operating by the end of 2027. The water company is seeking to bolster local supplies after state regulators ordered it to stop its decades-old practice of unlawfully diverting more than its share from the Carmel River.

Desalination plant considered for Alentejo coast – Portugal

Scheduled to be completed in March 2026, the work, valued at €45 million, is currently in the development phase of the necessary studies to be able to put the contract out to tender.

The Government is studying the opening of a desalination plant for the “cleaning” of seawater to address the lack of drinking water on the Alentejo coast, similar to the project that will be inaugurated in the Algarve in 2026, within the scope of the Recovery and Resilience (PRR).

Fate of possible Marina desal plant will be decided Thursday – California, USA

The project was proposed by California American Water, which would use the plant to deliver millions of gallons of water to about 100,000 of its customers on the Monterey Peninsula, which are predominantly wealthier communities: the city of Monterey, Pacific Grove, Carmel-by-the-Sea and the neighborhoods of Pebble Beach.

The project is anticipated to supply 40 percent of the Peninsula’s water needs.

30pc work completed on 1.2 MGD desalination water plant in Gwadar – Islamabad, Pakistan

In order to provide clean drinking water to residents of Gwadar city, almost 30 percent work has progressed on the construction of 1.2 MGD (million gallon per day) Water Desalination Plant. The desalination water plant is being completed with the Chinese grant of Rs2 billion.

The 1.2 MGD Water Desalination Plant project, he said, will be enough to meet the water demand of the Gwadar city and Gwadar port.

He said initially a 0.5 MGD Water Desalination Plant project was inked with the conduction of feasibility and survey by government of Pakistan […]

ACCIONA makes strides to prevent fouling in reverse osmosis desalination – Spain, Europe

ACCIONA has launched its WITNESS project with the aim of developing a biological indicator to preventively determine the presence of agents causing fouling in seawater reverse osmosis desalination processes.

The new indicator developed by ACCIONA will provide a preventive diagnosis to adjust the operating conditions of the desalination plants, in order to minimise fouling and, therefore, its consequences on the desalination process.

Together with other operation indicators of the reverse osmosis stage, the WITNESS indicator will be integrated into an Artificial Intelligence-based fouling potential prediction tool, which will be validated in the innovation facilities […]
