Rodrigues: desalination has become a reality – Mauritius

Desalination in Rodrigues is now moving into its execution phase at Caverne-Bouteille, where the unit will produce 80 m 3  of water per day for 60 kw of solar panels.

“ It’s a way of getting new ideas across to produce and consume clean energy. I’ve always wanted to use solar energy to desalinate seawater ,” explained Gilles Huberson. He added that he hopes that, in the near future, the three other desalination units will also be able to run on solar energy, in order to supply some 240 m 3 of  water per day. “Which will be a good example for Rodrigues.”
