In March 2016, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported that mining company White Mountain Titanium had agreed US$ 2 million in debt financing with investment firm Nexo. The deal gave Nexo's subsidiary Nexo Water exclusive rights to finance and develop the planned desalination plant for Cerro Blanco, a rutile project in Chile. Nexo intended to apply high-recovery processes expected to yield more fresh water than reverse osmosis on its own. Both sides planned a joint venture to split revenue from future water sales.
The report showed how a Chilean mining project handed the financing and technology of its water supply to a partner in order to reduce its own capital outlay.
