Desalination technology
a. technology basics then looking into
- driving forces (in preperation),
- working principle (LINK) and
- technology classifications (LINK).
Furthermore
b. technology in use (LINK) (RO, MED, MSF) is highlighted and

a. technology basics (LINK)
Giving the foundation to a building will form its size in footprint and height. Knowing the basics in desalination will show the limits and open opportunities. Reviewing the given technology basics structured on a scientific background from three different angles does lead into a more clear orientation. This section opens up three important basics:
- driving forces (in preperation),
- working principle and
- technology classifications.

b. technology in use (LINK)
Land based desalination plants started to operate with larger volumes around 1960. Use for chemical processing within the industry now it became its own industry. From this point on water and energy had an inseparable relationship. Following the path of efficiency more and more desalination plants have been building up in combination with power plants producing electricity and water (dual purpose plants). Since the early 1990 more and more plants not using distillation processes but membrane technology have been build. More and more even combinations of this technologies at one side show up in order to optimize operation, investment and energy consumption/distribution.

c. future desalination technologies (LINK)
Giving the foundation to a building will form its size in footprint and height. Knowing the basics in desalination will show the limits and open opportunities. Reviewing the given technology basics structured on a scientific background from three different angles does lead into a more clear orientation.
Every new development of a desalination technology can be classified based on the given structures published. In the following section our Desalination Technology Development Benchmark (DesTeDeBe) (LINK). is presented and some technologies apointed.
