Partnership for installation of solar-desalination systems in Kitui – Kenya

Climate Fund Managers (CFM), a leading boutique investment manager dedicated to securing a sustainable future through impactful investing, and Solar Water Solutions (SWS), a water technology company that designs and manufactures decentralized solar-powered water purification systems, have announced a partnership to co-finance and co-develop solar-powered desalination systems in Kitui, a county in the South East region of Kenya.

Under the partnership, CFM through its Climate Investor Two (CI2) fund will initially co-finance a piloting phase for these initiatives and later co-finance the full roll-out of up to 200 units that are expected to [

Vipingo’s Sh1.2 billion house project complete – PS Hinga – Kenya

Housing PS Charles Hinga on Saturday said the completion of Awali Estate, a project by Centum Investment Company at Vipingo, three months ahead of schedule, is a boost to investor confidence in local developers.

The PS said the milestone has increased the government’s confidence in local developers, who will be embarking on the government’s Affordable Housing programme.

“We were wondering whether we are ever going to get local developers, who are credible enough, that are going to bite, and Centum did,” said Hinga.

Smart solar-powered water desalination system connected in Kenya – Kenya

Powered entirely by solar energy and battery storage, GivePower’s desalination systems are housed in 20-foot shipping containers and capable of transforming 70,000 litres of brackish and/or seawater into clean drinking water every day.

Unlike most ground well systems, these solar water ‘farms’ produce a higher quality of water over a longer period of time with virtually no negative environmental impact, states the organisation.

The water desalination system is powered by a small solar photovoltaic power plant installed on the container. The micro off-grid plant has a battery-based electricity storage [

Solar-driven water desalination system for Maasai villages

A pilot plant was installed at a saline well in the Tanzanian Maasai village of Ndedo and supplies the population with 2000 litres of drinking water per day.

The plants are complete systems in which the water is cleaned of dirt particles, bacteria and viruses in preliminary stage and treated with self-generated chlorine in a post-treatment stage for sterile storage in a water tank.

The core of system is based on the membrane process of electrodialysis.
