Clean water milestone for Port Alfred desalination plant – South Africa

Port Alfred’s answer to the ongoing water crisis reached an important milestone when 100-million litres of clean, potable water passed through the desalination facility.

The Ndlambe Sea Water Reverse Osmosis Plant was commissioned on June 23, and processes two megalitres of seawater daily, supplying residents with pristine drinking water.

Quality Filtration Systems (QFS) director  Musawenkosi Ndlovu was thrilled that the project reached this milestone.

Municipality asks Bay residents to ‘pray for rain’ – Eastern Cape

That is the word from Nelson Mandela Bay infrastructure and engineering portfolio head Mongameli Bobani.

The municipality said on Friday there were continued water disruptions in parts of the city due to the Emerald Hill reservoir running dry and the Chelsea reservoir level at an alarming 11%.

Bobani said water should be restored to those areas by Friday evening, but divine intervention was also needed.

Nelson Mandela Bay dam levels dropping faster in lockdown – South Africa

As the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases increase in Nelson Mandela Bay, the dam levels continue to decrease — sitting at a combined level of 23.77% on Monday.

Three days before the forced lockdown on March 26, the combined level of the city’s four major storage dams was 25.05%.

Infrastructure and engineering political head Andile Lungisa said the city was facing two disasters, with the consequences of both dire for the city, reports HeraldLIVE.

Mayor to sign drought disaster declaration for Nelson Mandela Bay – South Africa

Nelson Mandela Bay mayor Mongameli Bobani will sign the declaration for the city to maintain its classification as a disaster area within 48 hours.

This was confirmed by mayoral committee member Andile Lungisa during a visit to the Impofu Dam on Thursday, reports HeraldLIVE.

Lungisa was flanked by the metro’s water and sanitation director Barry Martin and the acting executive director of infrastructure and engineering, Zukile Nogongo.
