The desalination plant activated in Andora – Europe

And we were amazed. I would also like to point out that we are not responsible for the poor maintenance of water pipes. Luckily we had taken precautions by choosing to activate the watermaker route which should guarantee us 2-3 thousand liters of water per day”.

Tedagua will develop a digital twin to optimize the management of desalination plants in their O&M contracts – Spain, Europe

  • This digital twin will provide differential added value for the company and our clients, mainly in three aspects: cost optimization, access to information by applying visual intelligence, and increased cybersecurity.
  • Data processing has become so important in the water sector in the last five years, especially in projects related to artificial intelligence, that it requires the development of an appropriate data processing strategy.

The project will be carried out in three phases. A first phase where all the relevant data will be collected and structured during the operation [

ACCIONA makes strides to prevent fouling in reverse osmosis desalination – Spain, Europe

ACCIONA has launched its WITNESS project with the aim of developing a biological indicator to preventively determine the presence of agents causing fouling in seawater reverse osmosis desalination processes.

The new indicator developed by ACCIONA will provide a preventive diagnosis to adjust the operating conditions of the desalination plants, in order to minimise fouling and, therefore, its consequences on the desalination process.

Together with other operation indicators of the reverse osmosis stage, the WITNESS indicator will be integrated into an Artificial Intelligence-based fouling potential prediction tool, which will be validated in the innovation facilities [

Mobile desalination plants to calm Mallorcan water crisis – Spain

“We have been assured that there will be no water shortages in any hotels this season,” a Balearic Islands’ tourist officer told edie.

The mobile desalination plants are being built in Palma, Andratx and Calvia, and politicians have promised that taxes will not be raised to pay for them.

A large, stationery desalination plant has been in operation in the Bay of Palma for a year now, but low rainfall last winter means that even the current supplies of desalinated water are not enough.

Axarquia desalination plant proposed by Junta to alleviate the drought – Spain

The subtropical sector of Axarquia is facing a truly apocalyptic scenario. La Viñuela reservoir contains barely 15.4 per cent of its capacity, with 25.4 cubic hectometres stored.

This supply is vital to the population for irrigating a good part of the 13,000 hectares of avocados and mangoes that are estimated to be in the eastern region. Their future may be seriously affected in the coming months if it continues without rain.

As a result, the Junta de Andalucia has had a drought decree in force for the [

Location of Algarve’s first desalination plant under discussion – Portugal

The location of the Algarve’s first desalination plant is already under discussion, the Algarve Municipalities Association (AMAL) has announced.

“Possible locations for the desalination plant are already being studied, namely by the municipalities and by the Águas do Algarve company, the entity responsible for this project,” AMAL said in a statement.

The announcement came after the region’s boroughs carried out an online meeting last week with Environment and Climate Action Minister, João Pedro Matos Fernandes.

Subsidies needed to offset high cost of Almeria’s desalinated water – Spain

THE Mesa del Agua de Almeria committee wants to be included in possible government subsidies for desalinated water.

The Mesa, which represents the irrigation syndicates that supply Almeria’s agricultural growers with water, pointed out that the Environment Ministry is contemplating subsidies for areas receiving water from the Tajo-Segura pipeline.

With these transfers cut back, these grants would offset the “brutal” increase in desalinating water owing to the cost of electricity.
