Nearly 75.29 million litres of water is being supplied to the southern parts of the city daily now. Though the plant has a capacity to treat 110 mld of seawater, production is restricted to balance more drawal of water from the reservoirs. Water supply has not been stopped as the work is being taken up in phases.

Nemmeli desalination plant to be ready by 2023 – Chennai – India

Chennai MWSSB has begun work to lay pipelines to draw seawater and discharge brine from the upcoming third desalination plant at Nemmeli. The plant will have a capacity to treat 150 million litres of seawater a day (mld).

Over 50% of the construction of seawater intake sump, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, and dissolved air flotation, in the plant has been completed so far.

The CMWSSB has laid cofferdams (a structure that enables work to lay pipelines for the desalination plant).

Third desalination plant will be ready in 2023, says K.N. Nehru – India

The ongoing project to construct the third desalination plant, with a capacity to treat 150 million litres of seawater a day, at Nemmeli will be completed by April 2023, Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru said on Saturday.

During an inspection, he instructed officials to expedite ongoing work at Nemmeli, and also initiate measures to start the construction of a 400 mld desalination plant at Perur.

Mr. Nehru noted that nearly 9 lakh residents would have better water supply once the â‚č1,259.38 crore desalination plant is commissioned in 2023.

Pipe laying work begins at Nemmeli desalination plant – India

Earlier this week, Metrowater started laying a 49 km-pipeline to carry water from the under construction desalination plant in Nemmeli to various areas till Pallavaram.

Like many others, the pandemic has affected the progress of the project to build a third plant in Nemmeli.

The â‚č1,259.38 crore project to build another desalination plant along East Coast Road may get delayed by a few months beyond its December 2021 deadline.

Foundation stone for 3rd desal plant at Nemmeli laid, to be ready by 2021 – India

To mark the beginning of construction of the new 150 MLD desalination plant, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami laid the foundation stone at Nemmeli on Thursday. 

While the Rs 1,259 crore worth project is funded partly by German funding agency KfW, a part is covered under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme.

The state government has taken Rs 700 crore on loan from KfW and the rest from the Central government.

Centre defers clearance for 400 MLD desalination plant in Nemmeli – India

Maintenance at Nemmeli desalination Plant will disrupted water supply for two days – India – Chennai

Water supply to parts of south Chennai will be disrupted on Thursday and Friday as the desalination plant in Nemmeli undergoes maintenance work.  Production at the plant, which has the capacity to treat and produce 100 million litre of water per day, will be stopped from 6am on October 12 till 6pm the next day.
