The aim of the project, which is part of the general strategy of OCP, is to cope with water stress.

OCP has given itself twelve months to put the Kasbat Talda wastewater treatment plant into operation.

The producer and exporter of phosphate (a mineral used in the manufacture of fertilizers for agriculture, editor’s note) in Morocco will also ensure the operation and maintenance of the future treatment plant.

Government reactivates the seawater desalination plant in Zeralda -ALGERIA

The announcement was made on October 27th, 2021 by Algerian Minister of Water Resources and Water Security, Karim Hasni.

By relaunching the seawater desalination plant of Zeralda, the government of Algeria relieves in a direct way 65 000 people in the city of Algiers.

According to the Algerian authorities, the rehabilitated plant is capable of supplying 10,000 m3 of drinking water per day.

TUNISIA: Tedagua, Orascom and Metito to build the Sfax desalination plant – Tunisia

With a view to ensuring the construction of the seawater desalination plant in Sfax, Tunisia’s SociĂ©tĂ© Nationale d’Exploitation et de Distribution des Eaux (Sonede) has chosen three companies active in the water sector in North Africa.

These are Metito, which has been multiplying contracts in recent years for desalination and wastewater treatment in Egypt. The Guernsey-based company (a British Crown Dependency) will work with Tecnicas De Desalinizacion De Aguas (Tedagua), through its parent company Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios, as well as Orascom Construction, a construction company based in Cairo, Egypt.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has just signed a financing agreement for nearly 250 million euros for the construction of the Sfax desalination plant in eastern Tunisia.

The plant under construction is intended to reduce the problems of drinking water supply experienced by the country’s second largest city.
