Abengoa Water Powers Abu Dhabi’s Taweelah Desalination Plant With Solar Energy – Abu Dhabi

Abengoa Water, the water division of the Coxabengoa Group, has announced the successful completion of the final tests for the Taweelah desalination plant in Abu Dhabi. This plant, the largest reverse osmosis desalination facility globally, boasts a production capacity of 909,218 cubic meters per day.

Over a span of 30 days, the plant surpassed performance expectations by desalting 204 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD), exceeding planned capacity by 2%. Following the successful tests, the plant has been handed over to the project company, “Taweelah RO Desalination Company LLC,” comprising Emirati companies TAQA and Mubadala, along with ACWA Power, acting as the Promoter.

Acwa Power announces full commercial operation at Taweelah RO plant – Abu Dhabi

Acwa Power, a leading Saudi developer of power and desalination projects, has announced that the project company for Taweelah RO plant in Abu Dhabi has obtained the commercial operation certificate for the final phase of the facility from Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC).

TAQA, GS Inima, EWEC announce financial closing of $435mln Shuweihat 4 seawater desalination project – Abu Dhabi

Located within the Shuweihat Power and Water Complex, S4 RO will supply up to 70 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD) of potable water, equivalent to approximately 320,000 cubic metres per day, significantly enhancing the security of water supply in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. Commercial operations are expected to commence in Q2 2026, with EWEC procuring water supplied by the S4 RO plant for 30 years.
