EWEC a leading company in the integrated coordination of planning, purchasing and supply of water and electricity across the UAE, today announced receipt of four proposals from Acciona, ACWA Power, Engie and GS Inima, for the development of its new Mirfa 2 RO IWP.

The M2 RO project will see the selected bidder developing, financing, constructing, operating, maintaining, and owning a standalone brownfield RO seawater desalination plant.

Two proposals from each company were received, one for a capacity of 80 MIGD, equivalent to 363,680 m3/day, sufficient to meet the water demand for up to 140,000 households, and a second proposal for a capacity of up to 120 MIGD (545,530 m3/day).

Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), a leading company in the integrated system of coordinating planning, purchasing and supplying of water and electricity across the UAE, announced today that it has successfully completed the transfer of the Load Despatch Centre (LDC) function from the Abu Dhabi Transmission & Despatch Company (TRANSCO).

The transfer of the LDC function to EWEC significantly expands its remit for coordinating water and electricity production operations in Abu Dhabi and beyond.

With this new function, EWEC will be responsible for the scheduling and despatch of water and electricity from independent water and power producers (IWPPs), which will continue to be carried via the transmission networks operated by TRANSCO, a subsidiary of TAQA Group.

Abu Dhabi’s water sector is playing a pivotal role in energy transformation, with desalination technology through nine major plants, thus enhancing the emirate’s security of water supply.

Pioneering the transformation of the energy sector in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) is leading the process of developing the water sector through enacting policies and regulations to reform its operations.

Since its establishment in February 2018 to be the new regulator of the energy sector in the Abu Dhabi, DoE has implemented new work mechanisms and adopted performance improvement plans.

Water security has been a major priority for Abu Dhabi. The emirate has always been seeking the  best methods to optimize the use of water resources.

Now, the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) is enhancing the water security of the emirate by developing fresh policies and regulations to support the sector.

The DoE will also improve the performance of its desalination plants to ensure secure and sustainable water supplies through nine of its plants which have a production capacity of around 1.3bn cubic metres of water per year.
