Centre mulling tapping wind power at low cost, says Nitin Gadkari – Hyderabad

Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari has said that the Central government proposes to generate wind power from Tuticorin, Kandla and Paradip ports. 

The plan includes establishing desalination plants at the three ports to solve the drinking water problem besides producing power at a rate of Rs 2.5 per unit, he said. He was speaking at the 34th annual convocation of Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) at Vellore on Saturday.

GWCL shuts down Teshie Desalination plant again – Ghana

The Teshie Desalination plant has been shut down again by the Ghana Water Company Limited.

According to Citi News sources, an exercise conducted by the Water Company revealed excess chemicals, necessitating the shutdown.

Over the period, residents of Teshie have called for the shutdown of the plant, lamenting that water produced by the plant poses a health threat to them.

Reduced water supply for two weeks – Caribbean

ALREADY suffering the effects of a severe dry season, consumers in central and south Trinidad are being advised to brace for a reduced water supply. The desalination plant in Point Lisas is scheduled to undergo routine maintenance from September 30 to October 15.

The plant produces 40 million gallons per day and is used to supply the Point Lisas industrial estate as well as augment supplies to central and south Trinidad.
