MEDRC Water Research and The Research Council have today announced the opening of the online application window for respondents to the Oman Humanitarian Desalination Challenge Prize.

The challenge is a $700,000 prize awarded to the person or team that can deliver a hand-held, stand-alone, low-cost, desalination device suitable for short-term use and rapid deployment in the event of a humanitarian crises.

Jersey desalination plant set to work again after seven years – Jersey

Island reservoirs are currently 46% full – compared to 71% at the same time in 2017.

Jersey Water said it was preparing its desalination plant because little rain was forecast for the „foreseeable future“.

It will be the first time the unit has converted seawater in seven years.

Jersey Water supplies 38,000 homes and businesses across the island.

UAE inspires GCC nuclear future – United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates is making progress on the construction of the first nuclear power plant in the GCC region.

In July, the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) announced that the first nuclear reactor would come online to start generating electric power in late 2019 or early 2020.

Construction of the UAE’s second nuclear power reactor is nearing completion with pre-operational testing well underway. Pre-operational testing process incorporates all lessons learned from the same test on Unit 1.

Essel Projects to set up Rs 700-cr desalination plant in Gujarat – Gujarat – India

The Gujarat government on Saturday announced the setting up of State’s largest desalination plant at Jamnagar with daily capacity to treat 100 million litres per day (MLD) of sea water.

An agreement is signed between Gujarat Water Infrastructure Limited and Essel Infraprojects Limited for the Rs 700-crore project to be developed under Public Private Partnership (PPP).

„Historic Moment“: Gujarat To Get Major Sea Water Desalination Plant – Gujarat

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said on Saturday that Gujarat was now on the threshold of ending its perennial water scarcity with the launch of a major desalination project to treat as much 10 crore litres of sea water a day in the drought-prone Saurashtra region.

The chief minister called it a „historic moment“, as the state-owned Gujarat Water Infrastructure Limited and private sector Essel Infraprojects Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement the project at the Jodia coast in Jamnagar district in Saurashtra region.
