Berejiklian eager to switch on Sydney desalination plant – Sydney – Australia

It’s little wonder the Berejiklian government is eager to switch on the Sydney desalination plant and end the „water security mode“ it has languished in since 2012.

At full bore, the Kurnell plant is designed to deliver about 91 billion litres of drinking water a year, meeting almost a sixth of Sydney’s annual needs.

CPUC gives Cal Am desal project unanimous go-ahead – North Marina – California – USA

After six and a half years of review, the state Public Utilities Commission on Thursday approved a permit for California American Water’s Monterey Peninsula Water Supply Project, including a North Marina desalination plant.

Govt opts for Chinese funded desalination plant – Windoek – Namibia

In a shock move which is likely to worsen the central region’s water woes, government has opted to construction its own desalination plant using proceeds from the N$10 billion that it has requested from China.

The long-term move, which is unlikely to bring the much-needed relief to the existing water woes faced by the central region which has started using boreholes as supply dams run dry, is expected to drag further the issue of securing consistent water supplies.

NAB takes notice of dysfunctional desalination plants – Pakistan

Taking cognisance of three dysfunctional desalination plants in Pasni, Jewani and Gadani, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Balochistan Director General Mirza Muhammad Irfan Baig has issued notices to the Balochistan Development Authority (BDA) and others responsible.

BDA had initiated three different projects in Pasni, Jiwani and Dam Jati at a cost of Rs1 billion to address water shortage in the areas, but despite a passage of 12 years the desalination plants are not operational.

Alkimos in the mix for Perth’s next $1 billion desalination plant – Perth – Australia

A giant desalination plant in Perth’s northern suburbs is in the mix to be the city’s next major drinking water source, with the Water Corporation set to undertake preparatory works.

The State-owned utility has revealed it is about to carry out a seismic survey of the seabed off Alkimos to identify potential issues or risks associated with building a desalination plant there.

Testing will begin on September 17 and last for three weeks, before a drilling barge is used for “core sampling” until November.

World Bank to provide $1B grants for Sinai development – Sinai – Egypt

The World Bank commission in charge of following up with the Sinai Integrated Development Programme headed by Ashish Khanna and Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Sahar Nasr discussed on Sunday finalizing the measures necessary for $1B grants.

The ministry also secured financing in the value of $2.5 billion from the Saudi Development Fund, the Kuwait Fund for the Arab Economic Development, and the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development.

Saeed Ghani orders installation of bio-metric system in KDA, LDA – Karachi – Pakistan

“Implementation of bio-metric system will ensure timely attendance in civic entities,” said Sindh Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani on Friday.

“A bio-metric attendance system should be installed in Karachi Development Authority (KDA), Lyari Development Authority (LDA) within 24 hours,” directed Saeed Ghani. He further said that a report should be submitted to him in this regard.

Finnish group Pöyry secures Saudi water project deal – Shuqaiq – Saudi Arabia.

Pöyry, an international consulting and engineering company, said it has secured the owner’s engineer services contract from the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) for the Shuqaiq Phase 3 Water Transmission System project in Saudi Arabia.

The scope of work includes review of contractor’s engineering services and supervision of construction, erection and commissioning, said a statement from Pöyry.

Sisi inspects development projects in Galala plateau – Suez – Egypt
