The Riyadh-based utility has made a bid to invest about $914 million in the project, which has a capacity of more than 180 million imperial gallons a day (818.2 million litres a day), Dewa said on Wednesday.
COTABATO CITY — Residents of Tabuan Lasa island municipality in Basilan province are expected to benefit from a P15-million desalination facility project that will give them safe drinking water from the sea, the first ever in the province.
The undertaking by NWC includes the construction of 40 water tanks with a collective capacity of 1.6 million cubic meters.
The projects also include the establishment of pumping stations and the laying of 493 kilometers of strategic pipeline networks.
Unveiling the big infrastructure plan, NWC said the project scope includes construction of 40 water tanks with a total capacity of 1.6 million cu m in addition to pumping stations and laying of 493 km of strategic pipeline networks that will be gradually operated to serve beneficiaries in Dammam, Khobar, Jubail, Al Ahsa and Al Qatif with 24/7 supply.
Acwa Power has emerged as the preferred bidder for the construction and operation of the Hassyan Phase 1 Independent Water Producer (IWP) project. Being set up at with an investment of US $914mn, the plant will process 180 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD) of sea water, using ‘reverse osmosis’ technology.
This project is the largest of its kind in the world for water production based on Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) technology using solar energy. It is DEWA’s first Independent Water Producer (IWP) model project. The water desalination capacity in Dubai is currently 490 MIGD. This capacity will increase to 670 MIGD in 2026 with the completion of this project.
“This is going to be the flagship example of bilateral relations and also of the Israeli integration into the region,” said Oded Eran, a senior research fellow at the Tel Aviv-based Institute for National Security Studies and former Israeli ambassador to Jordan.
“This involved a process called ‘potholing’ where our crews drill a specific depth into the ground to assess soil condition and quality, as well as confirm where other existing underground services like electricity and telecommunications are located, to safely plan the installation of our water pipeline,” Mr Henchliffe said.
Bechtel Energy and Five Point Energy announced an agreement that will allow Five Point to utilize Bechtel’s proprietary Low Energy Ejector Desalination System (LEEDS) technology to provide produced water desalination services to customers across the Permian Basin. This is proprietary water desalination technology that has never been used before and will be piloted in the Permian Basin.
„Corpus Christi is a large city,“ he said. „The eighth largest city in Texas, so I think we are probably due for another facility that would help us provide the water supply for our customers and help promote some of the opportunities for the city to grow.“
