State owned water utility to build new wind farm to provide power for desalination – Australia

Western Australia’s state-owned water utility is set to build one of the state’s biggest wind projects, to date, after securing the development rights for the Flat Rocks Wind Farm Stage 2 from Moonies Hill Energy.

The 100MW project, which has the potential for a capacity upgrade to more than 150MW, will be used to green up the Water Corporation’s power supply, as one of the highest electricity consumers on Western Australia’s main grid.

Point Lisas Desalination Plant to Shutdown for maintenance work -Trinidad and Tobago

The shutdown will mostly impact the pipe borne water supply to areas in Central and South Trinidad. The Desalcott owned and operated plant, provides 40 million gallons daily to WASA, which is used to supply the Point Lisas Industrial Estate, as well as augment the supply to areas in Central and South Trinidad.

Austria funds a desalination plant in the Cape Verdean island of Boa Vista – Cape Verde, Austria

Cape Verde’s Deputy Prime Minister, Olavo Correia, announced a financing agreement with the Bank of Austria for 10 million euros to install a desalination plant on the island of Boa Vista.

California Approves Desalination Plant as Drought Deepens – USA

The project, proposed by California American Water, was given the go-ahead by the California Coastal Commission late Thursday, after a 13-hour hearing where many residents and speakers highlighted the cost and environmental risks. The plant, set to be located 80 miles southeast of San Francisco, would produce 4.8 million gallons of drinkable water per day.

Yanbu 4 water project on track for commercial operations in 2023 – Saudi Arabia, UAE

On completion, the Yanbu-4 IWP will have 450,000 cu m per day capacity of fresh water to be supplied to households in Makkah and Madinah, said a statement from SWPC. 

The facility also boasts tanks with a capacity of 900,000 cu m and a 42-km-long desalinated water transmission line to transport more than 600,000 cu m per day, it stated.
