Desalination projects have always been a contentious issue in Monterey County and a proposal that will be mulled by elected officials Tuesday afternoon is sure to raise the eyebrows of advocates for publicly owned desal projects.

The idea that will be presented to the Board of Supervisors during its afternoon session beginning at 1:30 p.m. is an amendment to an existing ordinance allowing only public ownership of desal plants rather than private ownership.

PM follows up progress of housing ministry’s projects – Egypt

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli chaired a meeting on Sunday to follow up the execution of cooperation protocols between the ministry of housing and the Armed Forces Engineering Authority (AFEA) to carry out a number of projects in various sectors.

Water companies bet on hydrogen to beat climate change – Saudi Arabia

The Saudi water sector is moving towards increasing its hydrogen production as companies try to find creative ways to tackle climate change.

“We are the main producers of water, which is the main source of hydrogen,” said Carlos Cosin.

Cosin made these remarks during an interview with Arab News at a conference for the desalination sector in Jeddah last month.

Groundbreaking ceremony held for 5,000-ton/day Gwadar Seawater Desalination Plant – Pakistan

The project will provide 5,000 tons of fresh water per day to Gwadar residents and enterprises, greatly mitigating water shortage.

In his speech, PM thanked China for its assistance and the hard work of Chinese builders.

He said that China had donated solar power equipment to thousands of families in Gwadar and will also help building a desalination plant.

WABAG bags new order for 50 MLD Desalination projects – Senegal

WABAG a leading pure-play water technology company said it has secured a consortium Design, Build, Operate (DBO) order, for the 50 MLD Mamelles Sea Water desalination project from Societe Nationale Des Eaux du Senegal (SONES), the national water company of Senegal, worth ab out 146 million Euro.

The scope of WABAG under this order will be engineering and procurement and operation and maintenance, which is worth about one third of the consortium order value.

Saudi Arabia launches $666m water projects in Tabuk region – KSA

Saudi Arabia has announced the launch of 26 water, environmental and agricultural projects in the Tabuk region of the kingdom at a total cost of more than $667 million.

These projects, which include four desalination projects worth SR1 billion, and 5 projects for water transmission systems valued at SR1 billion.

In addition the governor also opened seven projects for developing water resources at a cost of SR100 million.

Construction begins on Jubail 3B IWP desalination project – Saudi Arabia

Construction work has commenced on the Jubail 3B IWP desalination plant that will be located 65km north of Dammam airport in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

This followed a ground-breaking ceremony conducted by global energy company ENGIE.

Commissioned by SWPC, the Jubail 3B plant will produce 570,000 m3/day of potable water using RO technology.

China’s 1st nuclear steam project to turn seawater into clean energy – China

China has started construction of its first nuclear-powered steam supply project for industrial purpose to utilize heat generated by the nuclear power to convert desalinated sea water into clean, stable and efficient industrial steam and reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.

According to CNNC, its Tianwan nuclear-powered project with a total investment of $108.4 million and construction period of 24 months, will be fully operational by the end of 2023.

New desalination plants, power stations, and pumping stations will also be built under the project.
