NFDC say Fawley water plant plan would be bad for area – United Kingdom

PLANS to build a £600m desalination plant near Fawley have faced opposition from New Forest District Council

As reported in the A&T, the facility at Ashlett Creek, which would process 75 million litres of seawater into drinking water every day, would also see a 25km pipeline built to Testwood in Totton.

A report signed off by the council’s new leader, Cllr Edward Heron, stated: “Desalination at Fawley is a high carbon footprint, high environmental impact and high risk water supply option that NFDC should not support.”

Permit terms might kill Poseidon desalination proposal in Huntington Beach – California

Recommended terms for a permit to build Poseidon Water’s controversial desalination plant in Huntington Beach would make it impossible to get financing for the $1.4 billion project, according to the developer.

Regulators question that claim, although they acknowledge that the requirements could create financing obstacles.

Poseidon’s three-year effort to win a permit from the Santa Ana Regional Water Quality Control Board is scheduled to culminate within the next month, with a vote as soon as the board’s April 23 meeting.

New site options for Eyre Peninsula desalination plant – Australia

The location for SA Water’s planned Eyre Peninsula seawater desalination plant is under review, with the utility set to explore more cost-effective alternatives compared to the current preferred site near Sleaford Bay.

Sydney desalination plant churning out water even as dams remain full – Australia

Sydney’s $2.3 billion desalination plant is continuing to supply 50 million litres of water a day just weeks after the city’s dams spilled and storage levels remain near full.

New figures from WaterNSW also show Sydney’s main dam at Warragamba collected 1212 gigalitres of inflows from the big rainfall event – or 1,212,000,000,000 litres. That is about 60 per cent of the dam’s capacity.

As the dam was near-full before the deluge across eastern NSW ramped up from March 19, it began spilling within a day.
