Antioch looks to use project stabilizing agreement for $60 million desalination project.

The city has a $60 million desalination plant project about to hit the pipelines and is working on agreements to ensure it gets workers in a county bursting at the seams with large, ongoing construction.

City Council members voted 5 to 0 on Tuesday night to pursue a project stabilization agreement (PSA) for the city’s future brackish water desalination plant. A PSA is a pre-hire umbrella contract that consolidates wages, rules and disputes for a number of different contractors or unions on a large project.

Drought Battle: Israel to Use Desalinated Water to Rescue the Sea of Galilee.

Following five consecutive years of below-average winter rainfall, Israeli cabinet ministers passed a $30 million measure to replenish the Sea of Galilee and seven northern streams severely affected by the drought. The Dead Sea and the Jordan River are also suffering from the drought.

For the first time ever, desalinated water will be pumped into the Kinneret to help replenish its water level, as well as the streams in the north.

The plan also includes construction of two new desalination plants, one on the coast of the Western Galilee and a second in Sorek, where the world’s most advanced […]

This Innovative Technology Harvests Water from Cooling Towers.

To a researcher like Kripa Varanasi, an associate professor of mechanical engineering at MIT, a big nuclear power plant similar to the one that generates electricity near Cape Town, South Africa, is a fountain of water just waiting to be tapped.

The 1,800-megawatt Koeberg Station drinks in water from the nearby Atlantic Ocean and uses it as part of its thermal cooling cycle. Just as in other industrial settings, cooling towers are an inherent part of the power plant’s steam cycle.

As the reactor heats ultra-pure water to create steam to spin a turbine and generate electricity, a cloud […]
