California should use desalination to replace Colorado River water – California

After reading the Deseret Magazine article concerning the drying up of our desert areas, it was painfully obvious that in the allocation of use of Colorado River water, California came out looking like a water thief in using 52% of the water while contributing little or nothing to the system.

The state of California has one of the greatest sources of water on the planet Earth in the Pacific Ocean. Plans should be made for California to develop a desalination system to replace that 52% of Colorado River water and give it […]

Egypt’s desalination plants capacity spikes to 917 km3/day from 80 km3/day in 2014: Ministry – Egypt

Capacity of seawater desalination plants in coastal cities has increased currently to 917,000 cubic meters per day from only 80,000 cubic meters per day in 2014, Deputy Minister of Housing for Infrastructure Affairs Sayed Ismail said.

Ismail made the statements during the launching ceremony of the recently announced partnership between the Egyptian Ministry of International Cooperation and CNN.

The country has established 82 desalination plants since 2014 and is working on constructing 14 new plants with a capacity of 518,000 cubic meters per day, Ismail said.

Ducey desalination proposal carries hefty price tag – Arizona

This Friday marks Earth Day. This year the drought and dwindling water supplies top the list of environmental challenges here in the southwest.

Scientists remain at odds over Gov. Doug Ducey’s plan to help solve Arizona’s water issues by desalinating water from the Sea of Cortez.

Ducey unveiled the idea in his State of the State address earlier this year. He proposed a $1 billion project to draw treated water to Morelos Dam near Yuma, but the challenges to the idea remain difficult to solve.

Singapore officially opens fifth desalination plant – Singapore

Singapore on Sunday (April 17) officially opened the country’s fifth desalination plant, which is about 5 per cent more energy efficient than conventional desalination plants.

Due to its co-location with an existing power plant, the Jurong Island Desalination Plant can save about 5,000 megawatt hours per year, equivalent to the annual power needs of nearly 1,000 Housing and Development Board households.

The new facility, which has been operational since earlier this month, was officially opened by Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat and Minister for Sustainability and […]
