Corpus Christi councilmen express concern for plans regarding proposed desalination plant – Texas – United States

The Port of Corpus Christi has submitted a low interest loan application with the State of Texas for its Harbor Island Desalination Plant Project.

The cost of the project is estimated to be half a billion dollars. The Port is hoping to get its permit sometime next month to be able to have the plant built on Harbor Island.

However, the new information did not sit well with at least two city council members.

Ducey desalination proposal carries hefty price tag – Arizona

This Friday marks Earth Day. This year the drought and dwindling water supplies top the list of environmental challenges here in the southwest.

Scientists remain at odds over Gov. Doug Ducey’s plan to help solve Arizona’s water issues by desalinating water from the Sea of Cortez.

Ducey unveiled the idea in his State of the State address earlier this year. He proposed a $1 billion project to draw treated water to Morelos Dam near Yuma, but the challenges to the idea remain difficult to solve.

Singapore officially opens fifth desalination plant – Singapore

Singapore on Sunday (April 17) officially opened the country’s fifth desalination plant, which is about 5 per cent more energy efficient than conventional desalination plants.

Due to its co-location with an existing power plant, the Jurong Island Desalination Plant can save about 5,000 megawatt hours per year, equivalent to the annual power needs of nearly 1,000 Housing and Development Board households.

The new facility, which has been operational since earlier this month, was officially opened by Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat and Minister for Sustainability and […]

Cape May hopes state, federal grants will help fund a new desalination plant – New Jersey

In a century-old building at the end of Canning House Lane, a reverse osmosis system has the capacity to treat more than 1,000 gallons of water a minute.

It’s not enough. The solution could be a $35 million new facility. Much of the drinking water for Cape May and the surrounding communities must have its salt removed in a process called desalination.

Today, the city’s water system is under capacity. The city is looking at options, including an entirely new system.

Eyre Peninsula desalination plant moves a step closer as potential sites chosen – Australia

After years of deliberation and community backlash, four possible sites for a proposed desalination plant on the Eyre Peninsula have been selected.

The Site Selection Committee, an independent group of 20 local leaders and industry figures, has shortlisted Sleaford West, Point Boston, Shoal Point and the site originally chosen in 2020 at Sleaford Bay.

A detailed assessment of each site will now be undertaken, however, this does not mean Billy Lights Point, the site originally chosen that caused controversy, has been taken off the table altogether.
