Dam levels take a dive as the big dry tightens its grip – Sydney – Australia

The Kurnell desalination plant which has sat idle for the past five years may need to be switched back on if Sydney’s dam levels continue to fall.

Water levels at storages supplying the Sydney metropolitan area are sinking amid a lack of rain and rising consumption.

The total storage levels for the Sydney region are running at about two-thirds full, with the desalination plant set to be turned on to supplement the water supply when capacity drops to 60 per cent, according to WaterNSW.

Red tide disrupts operation of desalination plant in Barka – Barka – Oman

A red tide outbreak in Barka has forced ACWA Power to operate two of its water desalination plants below their capacity, resulting in a financial impact of RO140,000 to the company.

The company expects further delay in reverting to full operations as proliferation of Harmful Algal Blooms (HAB) is continuing, which is likely to increase the financial impact of the outbreak.

New water desalination projects on anvil: Diam

A string of new water desalination projects, currently under various stages of planning, tendering and development at key locations across the Sultanate, will help supplant older, less efficient projects nearing the end of their operational life, according to the Public Authority for Electricity and Water (Diam).

“Diam believes that desalination plants are the strategic choice for providing safe drinking water of high quality and efficiency due to the geographical location of the Sultanate and the scarcity of groundwater resources,” the state-owned utility said in a recent overview of its activities.

All 3 of CT’s desalination plants finally up and running – Cape Town – South Africa

After months of delays, all three of Cape Town’s desalination plants are up and running. The City of Cape Town says its various water projects are now all on track.

The city is still in the midst of a drought. There’ve been many delays at the Monwabisi desalination because of a dispute between the city and the local community.

Residents were demanding that more of them be employed at the facility. It was the last plant to be brought online.

EU builds photovoltaic energy field to power Southern Gaza Desalination Plant.-Gaza

The EU has completed the construction of the biggest photovoltaic energy field in Gaza, Palestine, which will fuel the Southern Gaza Desalination Plant.

The Southern Gaza Desalination Plant was funded by the EU and currently provides safe, clean drinking water for 75,000 inhabitants of Gaza.

Now powered by the new photovoltaic energy field, and the external investments it is expected to generate, the plant could provide water for more than 250,000 people in Gaza by 2020.

Desalination plant could be coming to Ingleside.-Ingleside

The City of Ingleside announced Wednesday they have an agreement with a company that wants to build a desalination plant on Corpus Christi Bay.

Although the site has not yet been picked for the desal plant, it will cost about $800 million to build. However, no taxpayer money will be used.

The City has signed a public-private partnership agreement with Poseidon Water based in Boston who will build the desalination plant and sell the water to the San Patricio County Water District and individual companies. Mayor Ronnie Parker said a stable water supply is what companies consider most important.
