Saudi renewable energy company Acwa Power has inaugurated Jubail 3A , the first independent water desalination plant. This was announced by the economic information website “Trade Arabia”, according to which the plant was built together with the Gulf Investment Corporation (Gic) and the company Al Bawani Water & Power (Awp). The $650 million project, conceived by the Kingdom’s water desalination company, Jazlah, and located in Jubail, in the east of the country, is the first of its kind thanks to its integration with photovoltaic energy. The innovative plant is also the first independent water project in the eastern region with a production capacity of 600,000 cubic meters of desalinated water per day to meet the growing water demand. The project includes a 45.5 megawatt solar photovoltaic power generation plant, which will account for 20 percent of the plant’s energy consumption and provide clean water to more than three million people at a record rate of $0.41 per meter cube using reverse osmosis technology.
