On Monday, President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi inaugurated the world’s largest wastewater treatment plant. Bahr Al-Baqar wastewater treatment plant, east of Port Said, will treat 5.6 million cubic metres per day which can then be used to irrigate agricultural land in Sinai.

Mohamed Ghanem, Irrigation Ministry spokesperson, said the plant aims to process two billion cubic metres of water annually “to contribute to the reclamation of between 400,00 and 500,000 feddans as part of the national project to develop Sinai and make optimal use of water resources”.

Egypt’s desalination plants capacity spikes to 917 km3/day from 80 km3/day in 2014: Ministry – Egypt

Capacity of seawater desalination plants in coastal cities has increased currently to 917,000 cubic meters per day from only 80,000 cubic meters per day in 2014, Deputy Minister of Housing for Infrastructure Affairs Sayed Ismail said.

Ismail made the statements during the launching ceremony of the recently announced partnership between the Egyptian Ministry of International Cooperation and CNN.

The country has established 82 desalination plants since 2014 and is working on constructing 14 new plants with a capacity of 518,000 cubic meters per day, Ismail said.

The construction site of the Sfax desalination plant finally starts – Tunisia

The Sfax seawater desalination project is on track. On 1 April 2022, the head of the Tunisian government Najla Bouden launched work on the project site in Gargour, 20 km from the city of Sfax.

The consortium consisting of Tecnicas De Desalinizacion De Aguas (TEDAGUA), through its parent company Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios, Metito and Orascom Construction is implementing the project, which is expected to improve the drinking water supply for more than 600,000 people, mainly in Sfax.

Namibia is pressing ahead with the construction of a new desalination plant in the central coastal Erongo region to meet demand for water from uranium mines and other users.

Egypt signs green energy deal with Saudi ACWA – Egypt – Egypt

The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Co. will this month sign a deal to purchase wind energy of 1,100 megawatts from Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power.

Sources at the EETC said that the project would cost over $1.2 billion and would be implemented in stages. According to the sources, the EETC will pay 2.85 cents per kilowatt-hour.

The Egyptian Cabinet had agreed to proceed with talks for the Saudi company to replace the Hanadi village, Luxor governorate project that has a current total capacity of 2,250 megawatts.
