SHIJIAZHUANG, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) — A large desalination project, capable of producing 10,000 tonnes of freshwater from seawater per day, started operations on Wednesday in Tangshan City, north China’s Hebei Province.

The thermal-membrane hybrid seawater desalination project, operated by Shougang Jingtang United Iron & Steel Co., Ltd., is hailed as an industrial breakthrough in the country’s steel sector, a big consumer of water.

Saudi Arabia mulls privatization of water entities, boosts self-sufficiency, says minister – Saudi Arabia

Saudi Minister of Agriculture Abdulrahman AlFadley said that the ministry has a program for privatizing water companies and plants owned by the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), and nationals will be able to own shares in them.

During the 2021 Budget Forum, AlFadley said the water desalination plants implemented by SWCC and other sectors is one of the Kingdom’s great breakthroughs over the last 50 years.

He also indicated that the ministry pays great attention to transportation and technology and will transport water to producers.

Mubadala to invest in Asper’s AED 2.1 billion Dorothea Investment Vehicle – United Arab Emirates

Mubadala, the Abu Dhabi-based sovereign investment company, today announced that it will be taking a significant stake into Asper Investment Management’s (Asper) Dorothea investment vehicle (Dorothea).

Dorothea is targeting to deploy more than AED 2.1 billion (€ 500 mn) into building a network of district heating services across the Netherlands.

Asper is Europe’s leading independent investment management firm specialized in sustainable real assets with investment vehicles dedicated to energy transition and a track record in district heating since 2014.

Hubco, DHA to provide clean water by reviving desalination plant – Pakistan

In a letter to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Friday, Hubco said it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with DHA over the revival of DHA Cogen Limited, a desalination plant in Phase VIII.

Hubco will generate 84 megawatts of power to supply to K-Electric and provide three million gallons of potable water per day to the Cantonment Board Clifton.

SHC seeks reply of Centre over desalination plant at Karachi island – Pakistan

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday issued notice to the federal government seeking its reply over an agreement it signed for a desalination plant installation at Bundal island.

A petition in the high court pleaded that the Attorney had earlier assured the learned court that all stakeholders will be taken into confidence over any development on the islands.

“The federal government has summoned tenders for construction activities and signed an agreement for installation of desalination plant at Bundal Island,” the petitioner said.

Mumbai: BMC gets Israel experts‘ help for desalination plant – India

After the Shiv Sena’s pet project, Coastal Road, the BMC is now turning its focus on the desalination plant at Manori, for which it has sought the help of the government of Israel that is a pioneer in the technology.

Experts from Israel will join the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for the feasibility study of this project.
