Foundation stone for 3rd desal plant at Nemmeli laid, to be ready by 2021 – India

To mark the beginning of construction of the new 150 MLD desalination plant, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami laid the foundation stone at Nemmeli on Thursday. 

While the Rs 1,259 crore worth project is funded partly by German funding agency KfW, a part is covered under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme.

The state government has taken Rs 700 crore on loan from KfW and the rest from the Central government.

Hyflux unit restructures $121.3m loan for desalination plant in China – China

Hyflux said its wholly-owned unit Tianjin Dagang Newspring Co Ltd (TDN) has successfully restructured a 617 million yuan (S$121.3 million) Bank of China loan.

The loan’s maturity date has been extended by three years to 2026, with the repayment schedule adjusted for lower annual repayments.

The loan is for TDN’s 100,000 cubic metre per day seawater desalination plant in Dagang City, Tianjin Province, and is guaranteed by Hyflux.

DEWA invites Expression of Interest for 120 MIGD Hassyan Sea Water Reverse Osmosis Project – Dubai

Dubai: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) released an invitation for interested companies to apply for Expression of Interests (EOIs) for the 120 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD) Hassyan Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) project, for competent companies that work based on the Independent Water Producer (IWP) model to enter the project.

Dewa inaugurates Simulator and Training Centre – Dubai

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has launched the Simulator and Training Centre at its Jebel Ali Power Plant & Desalination Complex.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dewa inaugurated the centre, which Dewa built in collaboration with Siemens. Chennai’s 3rd desalination plant to be launched next week – Chennai

In about two years, Chennai will get water from its third desalination plant.

The project, that will supply 150 million litres a day, is likely to be launched in Nemmeli on Thursday, Metrowater officials said. The plant will cater to residents of several areas, including Velachery, Palavakkam and Perungudi.

In addition to this, for establishing the fourth desalination plant in Perur, that will supply 400 mld to the city, Metrowater has set the ball rolling after a lot of delay.

Water to be ferried to Chennai by train from Jolarpet, says CM Palaniswami – Chennai

Chennai: Water starved Chennai is all set to get some relief as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami Friday said 10 million litres would be transported from Jolarpet in Vellore district by train to augment supply.

This initiative will be carried on for six months and Rs 65 crore has been set apart for the purpose, he said. Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has been allocated Rs 158.42 crore for water distribution here, he said.

Houthi missile targets Saudi desalination plant – Saudi

The Arab coalition fighting to restore legitimacy in Yemen said on Thursday a projectile launched by Yemen’s Iranian-backed Houthi rebels had landed on Wednesday night near a desalination plant in Al-Shuqaiq in Saudi Arabia, causing no casualties or damage.

In a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the coalition spokesman, Col. Turki Al-Maliki said security forces were working to determine the type of projectile that had been used in the attack.

Shuqaiq is in the southwestern Saudi province of Jazan bordering Yemen.

Water projects worth $166m being inaugurated in central Iran – Iran
