Saudi Arabia issues request for proposals for Jubail Phase 3 IWPs – Saudi Arabia

Owned by the kingdom’s Ministry of Finance, Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) has issued request for proposals (RFPs) for the development of the Jubail Phase 3 Independent Water Projects (IWP), including Jubail-3A and BB with 600,000m3 and 570,000m3 potable water capacity per day.

SWPC has called for RFPs from 10 pre-qualified bidders including individual companies and consortia.

Six mega water projects launched in Saudi Arabia to serve pilgrims – Saudi Arabia

Dignitaries in Saudi Arabia inaugurated a number of water projects in Makkah and additional holy sites worth over SR3.1 (US $826 million) billion last week.

According to Eng. Abdulrahman Bin Abdulmuhsen Al-Fadhli, minister of environment, water and agriculture, these projects will serve visitors to Makkah and the holy sites.

Saudi Arabia plans to receive 15 million pilgrims and Umrah performers by the year 2020 and 30 million by the year 2030, in line with the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

Acwa Power’s fully owned desalination plant in Makkah opens ahead of schedule – Saudi Arabia

Utility developer Acwa Power announced the commercial start-up of a desalination project in Saudi Arabia’s western region of Makkah ahead of schedule.

The Shuaibah Expansion II scheme, which has the capacity to generate 250,000 cubic metres of water per day, began commercial operations in May.

The plant was built at a cost of $314 million (Dh1.15 billion) and was inaugurated by Prince Khalid bin Faisal, Governor of Makkah province.

Abengoa (MCE: ABG/P:SM), the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the infrastructures, energy and water sectors, has inaugurated together with its partner Fisia Italiampianti a reverse osmosis desalination plant in the Shuaibah complex, in Saudi Arabia.

The Project is the largest desalination plant built by Abengoa to date, with a capacity of 250,000 m3/day. In addition, the Project has already produced 20 million cubic meters of desalinated water since the successful completion of the tests required for the Project.

Houthi missile targets Saudi desalination plant – Saudi

The Arab coalition fighting to restore legitimacy in Yemen said on Thursday a projectile launched by Yemen’s Iranian-backed Houthi rebels had landed on Wednesday night near a desalination plant in Al-Shuqaiq in Saudi Arabia, causing no casualties or damage.

In a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the coalition spokesman, Col. Turki Al-Maliki said security forces were working to determine the type of projectile that had been used in the attack.

Shuqaiq is in the southwestern Saudi province of Jazan bordering Yemen.

Saudi Arabia construction contract awards grow 113% to $13bn in Q1 – Saudi Arabia

The US-Saudi Arabian Business Council (USSABC) revealed that the value of contract awards in Saudi Arabia grew to $13bn (SAR48.9bn) in Q1 2019, a staggering 113% increase from $6.1bn (SAR23bn) in the same period in 2018, Construction Week reports. 

According to USSABC’s Contract Awards Index (CAI) report, the total value of contracts covers megaprojects in various sectors, with oil and gas; water; and transportation projects making up 67% of the total value, accounting for $8.7bn (SAR32.6bn).
