Egypt in talks with Metito-led consortium over $1.5B desalination plant – Egypt

The Egyptian government is in talks with a consortium comprised Dubai-based Metito Holdings Ltd, Norway’s Scatec ASA, and Orascom Construction PLC (ORAS) over a $1.5 billion renewables-powered desalination plant, Bloomberg reported.

This move comes as part of Egypt’s strategy in addressing possible water shortages.

The consortium is seeking to partner up with the Sovereign Fund of Egypt on setting up the plant, which would follow a build-own-operate-transfer system (BOOT), according to Managing Director of Metito for Africa Karim Madwar.

Egypt PM discusses with Emirati company desalination and green hydrogen projects – Egypt

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly held talks on Sunday with the head of the Emirati energy company AMEA, Hussain al-Nowais, on water desalination and green hydrogen projects.

Nowais reviewed proposed projects to be established in Egypt in these areas, made in cooperation with specialized international companies.

Metito plans to build floating desalination plants in Egypt – Egypt

Dubai-based water treatment company Metito aims at building floating desalination plants in Egypt, CEO Karim Madwar Al Borsa Newspaper.

The company is seeking to arrange the required financing for implementing this project through a number of financing entities, including the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Madwar said.

The Emirati company has already submitted its proposal regarding this project to the Egyptian government, represented in the Ministry of Housing, he said.
