Thousands on streets in Gwadar as protests enter Day 17 – Pakistan

Thousands of people, including women and children, continued protesting in Gwadar in Pakistan for the 17th day on Wednesday, demanding among other things, access to clean drinking water and an end to “trawler mafia”, Dawn reported.

Protesters from Gwadar, Turbat, Pishkan, Zamran, Buleda, Ormara and Pasni are taking part in the Gwadar Ko Huqooq Do Tehreek (Give Rights to Gwadar Movement) led by Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman, a local leader of the Jamaat-i-Islami. They have vowed to continue their protest till their demands are met.

Gwadar residents to get fresh water supply soon – Pakistan

Under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor initiative, Balochistan government has decided to initiate multiple projects for provision of clean water and its fair distribution in the coastal town of Gwadar.

The project worth Rs 130 million, would also cater the future water demand and sewerage disposal system in Gwadar, said official sources.

Moreover, multiple projects including, implementing water supply, distribution system, desalination plant, sewerage collection system and treatment plant has also been planned in the Master Plan of Gwadar.

Russian co intends to setup desalination, waste-to energy project in Karachi – Pakistan

A delegation of Russian businessmen led by Sergey Savchuk, CEO, CC RusWelding called on Board of Investment (BOI) Chairman Atif Bokhari to discuss investment opportunities in Pakistan.

Mauripur Expressway approved – Karachi – Pakistan

The Mauripur Expressway, water and sanitation and desalination projects were approved on the public-private partnership mode on Thursday as the 32nd meeting of Public Private Policy Board was held at the Chief Minister’s House.

Along with the expressway, the board approved the Link Road to Korangi, Hub water supply project of three million gallons per day (MGD) from Dhabeji to Special Economic Zone, the Lyari sewerage system, the Lyari Development Authority’s Scheme 42, a five MGD desalination plant and construction of canal from Nabirsar to Vajira on the public private partnership mode.

Hubco, DHA to provide clean water by reviving desalination plant – Pakistan

In a letter to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Friday, Hubco said it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with DHA over the revival of DHA Cogen Limited, a desalination plant in Phase VIII.

Hubco will generate 84 megawatts of power to supply to K-Electric and provide three million gallons of potable water per day to the Cantonment Board Clifton.

SHC seeks reply of Centre over desalination plant at Karachi island – Pakistan

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday issued notice to the federal government seeking its reply over an agreement it signed for a desalination plant installation at Bundal island.

A petition in the high court pleaded that the Attorney had earlier assured the learned court that all stakeholders will be taken into confidence over any development on the islands.

“The federal government has summoned tenders for construction activities and signed an agreement for installation of desalination plant at Bundal Island,” the petitioner said.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday was informed that the federal government’s Karachi Transformation Plan comprised over 100 projects that would cost Rs 1.117 trillion to fully fund.

The high-level meeting—attended by federal ministers Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Asad Umar, Faisal Vawda and Adviser on Finance Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, as well as Chief of Army Staff Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa—was briefed on the overall progress of the plan.

Parliamentary body for early completion of Gwadar projects – Pakistan

The Parliamentary Committee on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) emphasized on early completion of ongoing projects at Gwadar pertaining to development of infrastructure, water, health, provision of energy, and security arrangements in view of the importance of Gwadar port.

In an in camera meeting of the CPEC chaired by Sher Ali Arbab after receiving briefing from relevant ministries and departments remarked that Gwadar is the most important component of the CPEC, as the success of the CPEC is linked with the effective operationalisation of Gwadar.
