TUNISIA: Tedagua, Orascom and Metito to build the Sfax desalination plant – Tunisia

With a view to ensuring the construction of the seawater desalination plant in Sfax, Tunisia’s Société Nationale d’Exploitation et de Distribution des Eaux (Sonede) has chosen three companies active in the water sector in North Africa.

These are Metito, which has been multiplying contracts in recent years for desalination and wastewater treatment in Egypt. The Guernsey-based company (a British Crown Dependency) will work with Tecnicas De Desalinizacion De Aguas (Tedagua), through its parent company Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios, as well as Orascom Construction, a construction company based in Cairo, Egypt.

JICA lends €250m for the construction of the Sfax desalination plant – Tunisia

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has just signed a financing agreement for nearly 250 million euros for the construction of the Sfax desalination plant in eastern Tunisia.

The plant under construction is intended to reduce the problems of drinking water supply experienced by the country’s second largest city.

The Tunisian authorities are obtaining funds for the implementation of the project to build a seawater desalination plant in the port city of Sfax.

Va Tech Wabag is winning new markets in Africa. The Indian multinational has just signed contracts for the construction of drinking water production plants worth 100 million dollars in Switzerland, Libya and Tunisia.

Tunisia to present two projects at 1st Africa Investment Forum in Johannesburg – Tunis – Tunisia

Tunisia will present two projects on seawater desalination and energy at the 1st Africa Investment Forum (AIF) to be held from November 7 to 9, 2018, in Johannesburg, South Africa, on the initiative of the African Development Bank (AfDB).

The Tunisian delegation will be led by Minister of Development, Investment and International Co-operation Zied Laadhari, with the participation of the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG), the Tunisian Chemical Group (GCT), the Tunisian Investment Authority (TIA), the “Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations” (CDC) and the General Authority for Public Private Partnership (IGPPP).

German bank to fund $96m Tunisia water project.

Tunisia yesterday signed a €82 million ($96 million) loan agreement with Germany’s KfW Development Bank to finance a water project, the Anadolu Agency reported.

The agreement was signed by Tunisian Minister of Development, Investment and International Cooperation, Ziyad Al-Athari, and the Director of KfW’s office in Tunis, Sven Neunsinger.

Seawater desalination plant in Zarat to be commissioned early 2021 (SONEDE CEO)

The construction works of the seawater desalination plant in Zarat (Gabes) will start by the end of 2018 and the station will be commissioned at the beginning of 2021, announced CEO of the National Water Distribution Utility (SONEDE) Mesbah Helali.

SONEDE has launched, over the last ten years a project to improve the quality of water in southern Tunisia.

The project consists of reducing salinity to a rate of 1.5 grams per liter, compared to more than 2 grams in all regions and localities where the population is over 4,000 inhabitants.

Construction of seawater desalination plant to begin in 2018 – Tunisia – Sfax

…Next year, construction of the Grand Sfax desalination plant, in the Sfax governorate, will begin.

This was reported by Tunis Agence Presse (TAP) citing Samir Taieb, Tunisia’s minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fishery.

The plant will treat daily 200,000 m3 of seawater and be built over 20 hectares in the southern delegation of Sfax. The project is to cost overall 480 million dinars ($197 million) and will be financed with a loan secured from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). It should be delivered in 2020, according to Taieb.
