Utico’s SWRO desalination plant on course for timely completion – United Arab Emirates

Utico stated that the record breaking world’s lowest water tariff project, the Hassyan Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO), is on course for a timely completion.

It has done so in record time, three months ahead of schedule, a fact that has not occurred before in any project of these characteristics.

This milestone is part of the plant’s operational tests, which are currently in the commissioning phase.

UAE’s EWEC issues request for qualifications for development of Shuweihat S4 desalination project – Unted Arab Emirates

Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has announced the issuance of Request for Qualifications to companies and consortia that expressed interest in developing the Shuweihat S4 Reverse Osmosis (RO) Independent Water Project.

The Shuweihat S4 Project will desalinate seawater using RO desalination technology, a low carbon-intensive process, to produce up to 70 million gallons of water per day of potable water, which would be sufficient to meet the demand for approximately 125,000 households.

UAE launches Phase 1 of $600m Umm Al Quwain desalination plant – United Arab Emirates

The plant will provide water using marine environment and water desalination standards, and has been implemented with high efficiency in delivering an environmental footprint, a report by UAE’s state-run news agency Wam confirmed.

The plant is being built on 250,000 m2 at the cost of around $600m (AED2.2bn).

Al Mazrouei said, while inaugurating the first phase of the project, that it will produce 50 million imperial gallons per daily (MIGD), while the total production capacity will reach 150 MIGD once commissioned.

New Umm Al Quwain plant to produce 50 million gallons of water in first phase – United Arab Emirates

The first phase of a water desalination plant in Umm Al Quwain, which will produce 50 million gallons of water every day, opened on Thursday.

Built on an area measuring 250,000 square metres, at a cost of Dh2.2 billion, the project is the largest of its kind in the UAE’s northern area.

Once all phases are complete by the end of next year, daily production at the plant is expected to increase to 150 million gallons of water.

Dubai sewerage treatment project wins IDA award – United Arab Emirates

Dubai Municipality, represented by the Sewerage Treatment Plants and Drainage Network Department, won the first place in the International Water Reuse and Recycling Award, organized by the International Desalination Association.

The Jebel Ali Sewage Treatment Plant Expansion Project (Phase 2) won the award in the Exceptional Utility Leader category

The project aims to raise the plant’s capacity from 300,000 to 600,000 cubic meters per day, in order to accommodate the continuous growth of the city.

UAE startup Manhat hopes solar stills can help solve Gulf’s water crisis – United Arab Emirates

For Dr Saeed Alhassan, it was when a half-full water bottle sitting in a car overnight six years ago developed water droplets on its previously dry inner surfaces.

Manhat, his Abu-Dhabi based startup that discovery inspired now hopes to address a global water market predicted to be worth over $900 billion by 2023, and potentially the worsening problem of freshwater scarcity in the Gulf and other regions.

“When I observed the bottle the next day, the inner surface had significant water droplets,” he told Arab News.
