Hoshinoya Taketomi-jima installs self-sufficient seawater desalination system, reducing plastic bottle waste – Japan

Under the management of General Manager Kaoru Honda, the resort hotel Hoshinoya Taketomi-jima in Taketomi-Cho, Taketomi Island, recently started supplying its drinking water by desalinating seawater.

The hotel hopes to reduce plastic bottle waste, which has become a problem on the island due to drifting garbage and littering.

With the introduction of the independent water supply, the hotel will no longer provide bottled mineral water in guest rooms. This will reduce about 50,000 plastic bottles per year.

Approximately 45 kilometers north of Abu Dhabi city, the Taweelah project will be the first reverse osmosis independent water project in Abu Dhabi which will desalinate seawater for supply to local communities and industry in the area.

Saudi’s SWCC sets Guinness World Record for lowest energy-consuming desal plant – Saudi Arabia

SWCC’s new desalination plant operates at 2.27 kilowatt hours (kWh) per cubic meter of desalinated water.

The plant comprises a mobile seawater intake system that operates with the latest ERD energy recovery technology and highly energy efficient pumps.

In addition, the new desalination plant operates with an environmentally friendly reverse osmosis technology that has been implemented based on the latest international specifications and standards, according to the state-run Saudi Press Agency.

California looks to Saudi Arabia for desalination expertise – California

As water shortages become a reality across the globe, authorities in drought-prone areas are looking to Saudi Arabia’s desalination industry for inspiration.

The Kingdom produces more desalinated water than any other nation, with 27 plants transforming sea brine into five million cubic meters of fresh water a day. The industry has grown rapidly in recent years.

In January, the Kingdom announced plans to invest more than $500 million (SR1.874 billion) to build nine plants in Jeddah.

Southern Water wants to build desalination plant at Fawley – United kingdom

Southern Water is drawing up proposals to build the plant on land south of its wastewater treatment works at Ashlett Creek, near Fawley.

The scheme also involves the construction of a 25km pipeline from Ashlett to Testwood in Totton.

Southern Water says the scheme aims to keep customers‘ taps running in the event of a severe drought. But locals say they are concerned about the potential impact of the project.

Acciona To Use Its Maestro AI Platform At Qatar Desalination Plant – Qatar

Spanish infrastructure and renewable energy giant Acciona won the contract for the design, construction, and O&M of the Umm Al Houl SWRO desalination plant in Qatar in 2015.

The plant will produce 564,000 m3 of desalinated water per day, enough to serve 1.1 million people, after the start-up of operations in April.

Acciona will fund an AI project at the facility from its dedicated decarbonization fund.

Give desalinated water to industries: Andhra CM Jagan – India

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has directed officials to take steps to provide desalinated water to industries and industrial estates so as to conserve fresh water in reservoirs and other water resources. 

He wanted the officials to focus on promoting desalination plants and providing water to industries by laying dedicated pipelines.

He said that the responsibility in this regard lies on the AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC).

AI optimising new Qatar desalination plant operations – Qatar

Qatar’s Umm Al Houl desalination plant will see an artificial intelligence (AI) project run by Acciona optimise operations and achieve energy saving at the site, reducing carbon emissions.
