Kuwait utility Shamal Az-Zour makes market debut – Kuwait

DUBAI- Kuwait’s Shamal Az-Zour Al-Oula Power and Water Company made its stock market debut on Sunday.

At 0845 GMT, the shares were trading at 0.388 dinar ($1.27) per share, below their opening price of 0.4 dinar, and after briefly rising to as high as 0.5 dinar, according to Refinitiv data.

The company, Kuwait’s first listed public private partnership (PPP), supplies about 10% of Kuwait’s installed power capacity and 20% of water desalination capacity in the country.

Sydney water quality issues keep desal plant running – Australia

Concerns about water quality in Sydney’s main reservoir following last summer’s bushfires have prompted the government to continue to operate the city’s desalination plant even as dams near capacity.

Warragamba Dam on Friday reached 99 per cent capacity after recent rains lifted water levels by one-eighth in a week, WaterNSW data shows.

Across the network, Sydney’s dams were 97.5 per cent full having doubled since February rains effectively ended the region’s drought. Nepean reservoir continues to spill, while most others are more than 94 per cent full.

Gorgos embankment repaired in Javea – Spain

AMJASA, Javea’s municipal water company, has replaced water pipes and a retaining wall beside the Gorgos river. 

The road there, which had been closed to vehicles for some years, is open to traffic once more, Amjasa announced. 

The repairs, which cost €121,539, provide more protection for a key section of the domestic network, as the pipeline carries water from the desalination plant to the town.

Kuwait PPP developer recommends cash dividends of 25 fils – Kuwait

Shamal Az-Zour Al-Oula Power and Water Company, the first power generation and water desalination company and the first Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project to be listed in Kuwait, said its board of directors has recommended a cash dividend payout of 25 fils per share.

This will be the company’s first dividend and relates to the retained earnings for the period from 2017 to 2019 and is subject to lenders’ approval, said the statement from the Kuwait group.

Australia develops technology to make seawater drinkable within 30 minutes – Australia

Using only a high-tech filter and the power of direct sunlight, Australian researchers have developed a world-first technology that can make large volumes of seawater safe to drink in less than 30 minutes.

According to the Melbourne-based Monash University, the specially-designed filter is capable of generating hundreds of litres of drinkable water per day, and requires only direct sunlight to purify it, making the process energy-efficient, low cost and sustainable.

BHP’s (ASX, LON, NYSE: BHP) Escondida and Spence copper mines in northern Chile are poised to pay a total of $840 million for an early end to a 2008 energy contract with a coal-fired thermoelectric plant.

Shamal Az-Zour Al-Oula gets nod for Boursa Kuwait trading – Kuwait

Shamal Az-Zour Al-Oula Power and Water Company said it received regulatory approval for its listing debut on Boursa Kuwait’s premier market on August 16.

The company is the first power generation and water desalination firm and the first private-public partnership project to be listed in Kuwait, it said in a statement on Saturday.

NBK Capital served as the company’s listing adviser.

Poseidon’s Huntington Beach desalination plant still in choppy waters – California

As Poseidon Water pursues the final government approvals needed to build one of the country’s biggest seawater desalination plants.

The company still cannot definitively say who will buy the 50 million gallons a day of drinking water it wants to produce on the Orange County coast.

That’s one of several questions that continue to dog the $1-billion Huntington Beach project as Poseidon tries to seal an iron-clad deal more than two decades after it first proposed the ocean desalter.
