Suez and CDPQ sealed acquisition of GE Water & Process Technologies

French utility Suez, together with Canadian institutional investor Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ), has sealed its acquisition of GE Water & Process Technologies in a US$3.4 billion deal.

The acquisition strengthens Suez’s position in industrial water, particularly in the US and emerging markets. GE Water & Process Technologies had 2016 revenues of approximately US$2.1 billion and around 7500 employees.

Federal Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal has said that a water desalination plant would be constructed to provide five million gallons of water per day to the residents of Gwadar. „An approval to this important project will be accorded during the next meeting of Joint Coordination Committee,“ he told APP in an interview.

He hoped that the 300 MW coal power plant being set up in the port city would also start functioning this year, adding, it would not only cater to the requirement of Gwadar but the surplus electricity would be supplied in other part of Balochistan province.

IDA Conference 2018 in Dubai – UAE – Dubai

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced that Dubai will host the International Desalination Association’s 2019 World Congress on water Desalination. Previously, the congress was held in Dubai in 2009.

The conference will be held in 2019, coinciding with the 21st Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX), which will be held under the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of DEWA.

Grant from state Department of Water Resources for feasibility study on brackish groundwater desalination in Bonsall Basin of San Luis Rey River

The Rainbow Municipal Water District will be seeking a grant from the state Department of Water Resources for a feasibility study on brackish groundwater desalination in the Bonsall Basin of the San Luis Rey River. The water district board voted 5-0, Aug. 22, to approve the application of a grant to DWR along with execution of any agreement if the grant is approved. National water agency the Public Utilities Board (PUB)has chosen Tuas Power–Singapore Technologies Marine Consortium as the preferred bidder to build Singapore’s fifth desalination plant, to be located on Jurong Island. Huntington Beach desalination plant may get subsurface Intake – USA – California

Poseidon’s attempt to influence the State Lands Commission is too little, too late. Promising environmentally friendly methods in building a $1 billion desalination plant in Huntington Beach is not sufficient to overcome its past record of problems surrounding its Tampa Bay plant.

The California Coastal Commission has suggested and urged Poseidon to use a subsurface intake pipe so that the sand would act as a filter for marine life, such as small fish, fish larvae and eggs, which Poseidon has rejected because of the expense.

Seawater desalination complex – Azerbaijan – Salyan – Khidirli

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today familiarized himself with the activity of the seawater desalination complex in Khidirli village of Salyan district.

Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Huseyngulu Baghirov informed the head of state about the complex. The seawater desalination complex was commissioned in 2013.

The second line was installed in the complex in 2016 without any additional construction work. Each line has a production capacity of 1000 cubic metres. President Ilham Aliyev also viewed sapling fields in territory….
