2,3 Mio m³/d new desalination capacity in 2017 according to IDA/GWI report IWW reports – USA

In 2017, membrane technology accounted for 2.2 million cubic meters per day (95.6 percent) of annual contracted capacity while thermal processes accounted for just 0.1 million m3/day (4.4 percent) during the same period. Overall, the global desalination market continues to grow, marking the fourth year of continued growth following a slowdown in the mid-2000, according to data from the International Desalination Association and GWI. Between mid-2017 and mid-2016, cumulative global contracted capacity increased by 14 percent. Furthermore, the total number of desalination plants worldwide across all categories stands at 19,372 (2017) versus 18,983 (2016)….

20.000 m³/d desalination plant at Uran unit in Raigad, Maharashtra – India

State-run ONGC has received the coastal regulatory zone (CRZ) clearance for setting up a seawater desalination plant at its Uran unit in Raigad, Maharashtra at a cost of Rs 266.40 crore, according to an official letter issued to the company. The proposal is to set up a seawater desalination plant with a capacity to process 20 million litres per day (MLD). The proposed site is about 380 meters away from the high tide line (HTL) of Arabian Sea, along the western coast of India. Desalination is a process to remove dissolved minerals from feed water sources such as seawater […]

Performance Analysis of the Mechanical Vapor Compression Desalination System Driven by an Organic Rankine Cycle

Abstract:
A desalination system through mechanical vapor compression (MVC), coupling with an organic Rankine cycle (ORC) to drive the steam compressor, is proposed in this paper. Integrated mechanisms of the coupled desalination system are simulated and demonstrated based on the first and second law of thermodynamics, and the corresponding thermal performance is analyzed. Based on the system characteristics at the designed conditions for five types of working fluid, top temperature at the outlet of the boiler and the ambient temperature are designated to illustrate the evocable influence principles. It is observed that the variation trend of the performance both […]

Ghana Water buying desalinated water at about 1,25 €/m³ from Abengoa sub company – Ghana – Teshie-Nungua

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWC) loses GHc 6 million monthly by operating the Teshie-Nungua Water Desalination Plant. Citi News checks indicate that that the GWCL makes payment of GHc 8 million a month to the financiers of the project, although it makes only GHc 2 million by supplying treated water from the plant. The plant has the capacity to desalinate 13 million gallons of seawater a day. More generally, desalination refers to the removal of salts and minerals from a target substance, as in soil desalination, which is an issue for agriculture. In this case however, saltwater is desalinated […]
