Tangier announced the creation of a seawater desalination plant by the end of 2022. A first investment of 22 million dirhams was made to begin construction, as agreed with various companies at the ordinary session of the Regional Council of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (CR-TTA).

US chemical giant DuPont acquires Israeli desalination start-up – US

Desalitech’s patented reverse osmosis process can recover up to 98% of water treated, the company says, far exceeding recovery rates of most industrial and municipal reverse osmosis systems. The company, which has raised $24.5 million in funding to date, names Audi, Microsoft, Coca-Cola and L’Oréal among its customers.

Launch today of the largest water desalination project in Africa in the El Jadida region

The project aims to ensure a sustainable supply of drinking water for Greater Casablanca and the regions of Berrechid, Settat, and El Jadida, while alleviating pressure on water resources in the Oum Er-Rbia basin. The plant, spread over 50 hectares, will have a treatment capacity of 200 million m³ per year, expandable to 300 million per year by 2030, including 250 million dedicated to drinking water and 50 million to irrigation.

Egypt expects desalination tender in May

“The Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) has launched a tender for the construction of five concentrated solar power (CSP) plants to power water desalination plants on the north coast, according to an EEHC document (pdf). The plants are expected to require USD 270 mn of investment and will be established under a 25-year build-own-operate (BOO) contract. Bidders need to purchase tender documents at a cost of USD $500 by 30 August, and should submit their offers by 12 pm on 27 September.
