These PX devices are expected to prevent over 400,000 metric tons of carbon emissions from entering the atmosphere each year, the equivalent of removing over 85,000 passenger cars from the road each year.

The MoU aims to develop reverse osmosis technologies for seawater and related processes, improve pollution resistance and energy consumption, and expel salts from washing processes for osmosis technologies, in addition to developing innovative technologies, such as Zero liquid discharge (ZLD), micro membranes, and seawater mining technologies.
The 250l/s reverse osmosis plant went to a consortium comprising La Peninsular Compañía Constructora and Acciona Agua, which has a 25-year concession to design, build and operate it. Another contract for the integral improvement of the distribution system went to a consortium comprising FCC Aqualia and Aqualia México for 1.3bn pesos, which now holds a 10-year concession to improve, operate and maintain the system.

The desalination plant will produce 16 million cubic metres of fresh water, which means more than 20% of the Algarve’s public supply needs, estimated at 72 million cubic metres, says Águas do Algarve.
With the addition of the Rabigh 4 IWP, Acwa Power will double its desalination capacity in the area to 1.2 million m3/day and to 6.8 million m3/day across its portfolio, making it the largest private producer of desalinated water globally.
Currently, nearly 4 million cu m per day of desalinated water produced out of eight plants in Acwa Power’s portfolio deploys Toray’s reverse osmosis (RO) products, with another 1.3 million m3/day expected to be added once two other plants achieve commercial operation.

The collaboration will enable Ohmium to use desalinated seawater as an input in green hydrogen production.
Acwa Power, a leading developer, investor, and operator of power generation, water desalination, and green hydrogen plants worldwide, along with Haji Abdullah Alireza & Co (Haaco) and Al Moayyed Contracting Group (AMCG), has awarded the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services contract for the 600,000 cu m/day Rabigh 4 Independent Water Plant (IWP) project to a consortium of Power China, SepcoIII and Wetico.
