These floating barges were engineered, designed and commissioned by Metito for The Saudi National Shipping Company (Bahri). Each of them boasts a 50,000 cu m per day capacity.
Most of the drinking water used in the UAE comes from the sea. To manage the growth in water consumption and to compensate for the aging of existing facilities, mainly thermal desalination plants, the country has decided to use the latest advanced technologies and engineering processes to increase its desalination capacity while reducing its energy consumption. A strategy that strongly supports the country’s 2050 carbon neutrality ambition.
The plant, which will be the third largest desalination facility in UAE, will utilise reverse osmosis desalination, and output a production capacity of 550,000 cubic meters per day of potable water, providing clean drinking water to approximately 210,000 households while offering increased efficiency and a reduced environmental footprint.

This desalination plant, which was completed in 30 months, has achieved a world record in energy efficiency with a consumption of less than 2.8kWh/m3 using seawater from the Persian Gulf. Jubail 3A will generate 600,000m3/day of drinking water to supply a population equivalent to 3,000,000 inhabitants, thus ensuring supply to the Eastern, Riyadh and Oassim provinces.
Commissioned by Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC (TAQA) and Engie, the reverse osmosis desalination plant will have a production capacity of 550,000 cubic meters per day of potable water.
The Mirfa 2 plant will incorporate the latest developments in environmental and efficiency standards for desalination, featuring advanced technological processes such as reverse osmosis, which represents strong efficiency gains compared to traditional thermal desalination, to lower energy consumption and improve productivity.

The company says its new location is Europe’s largest center for production, engineering and research & development of ceramic filtration technology, enabling an annual supply of CFMs to treat 3,000,000 m³/d of water and wastewater. Filtration modules for projects totaling 200,000 m³/d capacity are already produced and stocked for immediate shipment.
