FEDCO CEO wins desalination innovation award – KSA

FEDCO’s BiTurbo uses commercially available equipment in a patented configuration to deliver optimal membrane performance and higher water production, without increasing the feed flow to a desalination system. The BiTurbo technology has been deployed in five installations to date in Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Indonesia, for applications including brine mining, tourism and agriculture. This innovation brings down the cost and environmental impact of seawater desalination and has been used in pioneering brine mining applications in Saudi Arabia.

ArcelorMittal to build its first ever desalination plant – Brazil

The planned investment is about 50 million reais ($13.32 million) and the project should start operating in two years, he said.

In an initial module, the plant will be capable of desalinating 500 cubic meters (132,100 gallons)of sea water per hour.

PORTUGAL IS TO HAVE ITS FIRST DESALINATION PLANT, IN ALBUFEIRA

The Albufeira plant will be the first in mainland Portugal, but the first desalination plant was in Porto Santo, Madeira, opened in 1980 and managed by Águas e Residuos da Madeira (ARM). It is the only source of drinking water used for the public supply of the island, which is produced from sea water through reverse osmosis desalination units.

Named the ‚Dampier Seawater Desalination Plant‘, this desalination plant will be located at Parker Point, where Rio Tinto processes its iron ore port operations. The plant will have an initial treatment capacity of four gigalitres per year with the potential to increase its treatment capacity to eight gigalitres.

Government proposes desalination plant – Albufeira, Portugal

The Government is to propose the construction of a desalination plant in the municipality of Albufeira, Algarve, and wants to open the tender before the end of the year, according to the Minister for the Environment and Climate Action, Duarte Cordeiro.

Second desalination plant crucial for water security – Namibia, SA

According to Orano Mining’s managing director Tommie Gouws, EDP has the capacity to produce 20 million cubic metres of water per year, with the existing infra- structure allowing for expansion up to 25 million cubic metres and the potential to further expand to 45 million cubic metres.
