Haaland, Vasquez announce $12.6 million for brackish water research – New Mexico

Haaland’s office said the Alamogordo facility would use the money to build an advanced water treatment facility and associated infrastructure in response to PFAS (polyfluoroalkyl and perfluoroalkyl substances) contamination that was discovered a few years ago. This, her office said, would restore access to the two contaminated brackish wells on the site and allow them to be used again and reduce the operational load on the other two wells.

Desalination facility receives $12.6M investment – Mexico

The facility plans to use the allocated funding for an advanced water treatment facility to remove PFAS substances that were discovered at an evaporation pond in 2018 and two wells at the facility in 2019. The plan is to restore access to the two wells which would help lighten the load on the other two wells. Funding for the project comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

The programme aims at attracting foreign and local strategic investors with the key objectives of developing, constructing & operating the plants while powering them using renewable energy sources and aiming to transfer technology and localize manufacturing of key desalination components.

To date, DWR has awarded over $82 million in Proposal 1 desalination grants ranging from over $100,000 to $10 million to support 20 projects. Three projects are currently under construction, including the Antioch Brackish Water Desalination Project, the City of Camarillo’s North Pleasant Valley Desalination Project, and the brackish desalter in the city of Santa Monica. Two of the projects will contribute to the Governor’s goal of increasing brackish groundwater desalination production by 28,000 acre-feet per year by 2030.

Mangistau region to build 9 sea water desalination plants – Kazakhstan

As of now, the Astrakhan-Magyshlak pipeline and desalinated sea water supply the region with safe drinking water. Their aggregate capacity makes some 164,000 cubic meters a day. In summer the region experiences water shortages up to 50,000 cubic meters a day.

Abengoa starts up phase two of major desalination project – Abu Dhabi

Abengoa SA (Seville, Spain), in consortium with the company SEPCOIII, has started commercial operation of phase two of the Taweelah desalination plant (Abu Dhabi), following the successful completion of the contractual tests. This is the largest reverse osmosis desalination plant in the world (909,218 m3/day) and the first to combine the production of drinking water with the generation of clean energy. The project is located at the Taweelah power and water generation complex, 45 km north of Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates).
