Velasco was referring to a recently concluded bidding and award between the Marinduque Water District and the Pasig City-based Peak Off-Grid Innovations and Solutions for the establishment of modern facilities designed to deliver some 29,200 cubic meters of drinkable water daily to meet the islanders’ demand for personal, household, and irrigation purposes.
Around 32,500 cu m potable water per day will be provided through a seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant, while its district cooling capacity will around 32,500 RT.
This will be the largest desalination plant in Southeast Asia and make Chennai the desalination capital of India with 750 MLD water produced along the coast, the statement read. Shailesh Kumar, chief executive of the India Cluster said, “This is historically the largest ever order for Wabag. I’m also elated that this landmark order coincides with Wabag being ranked third globally among private water operators and in the top 10 desalination players globally by GWI.”
A third water desalination site is being studied by the city of Corpus Christi, with preliminary conclusions and data expected in the upcoming weeks.
The proposal would develop a plant capable of generating 20 million gallons of water per day in the Barney Davis Power Plant area, near Flour Bluff.
Va Tech Wabag, a water technology company, has bagged a design, build, operate (DBO) order from Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) for building 400 million litres per day (MLD) sea water reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant at a total cost of about ₹4,400 crore.
Contracts worth $141 million were signed with domestic private firms in the past seven years to build 85 desalination plants that are gradually coming online.
“WABAG with JV partner Metito Overseas wins a seawater reverse osmosis project from Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board. The Rs 4,400-crore is South East Asia’s largest ever sea water desalination with capacity of 400 MLD project funded by JICA,” it said.
This DBO order includes the scope of design, engineering, procurement, construction, installation, testing and commissioning of the 400 MLD (million litres day) SWRO desalination plant and the associated seawater intake system over a period of 42 months followed by 20 years of operation & maintenance (O&M).
The district study estimated the project could cost $122 million to nearly $194 million to construct and produce about 5,325 acre-feet of water per year for the district at a cost of $1,800 to $2,900 per acre-foot.
The low-interest loan is intended to help the plant’s owner, Poseidon Resources, satisfy state regulations for protecting fish and other marine life at the Claude “Bud” Lewis plant. The money, awarded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, is estimated to save ratepayers about $54 million.
The Carlsbad Desalination Plant is touted as the „largest, most technologically advanced and energy-efficient desalination plant in the nation,“ and has produced more than 100 billion gallons of drinking water for San Diego County since operations began in December 2015, officials said.
