Acciona depoys satellites to study seawater quality for desal plants 

Spanish infrastructure major Acciona has developed a predictive model for seawater quality that is improving the operation of SWRO plants in the region.

A leading operator of desalination plants in the Middle East, Acciona said this predictive model uses satellite measurements and Artificial Intelligence tools to forecast the quality of water reaching desalination plants.

Containerized solar water farms provide clean water, jobs for locals

More than 2 billion people globally lack access to clean drinking water, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Nonprofit organization GivePower is aiming to reduce that number by using the sun’s energy, shipping containers, desalination technology and local supply chains.

GivePower builds and delivers containerized solar-powered water farms that desalinate salty water.

The organization focuses on areas where “there’s an immediate and growing need for better access to safe water,” Kyle Stephan, vice president of operations at GivePower, told FreightWaves.

Wabag secures repeat order worth Rs 430 crore from RIL

VA Tech Wabag has secured an order towards engineering, procurement and construction of a 53mld desalination plant at Jamnagar, Gujarat, worth about Rs 430 crore from Reliance Industries.

The EPC scope of work under this RIL order includes design, engineering, procurement, supply, construction, erection, pre-commissioning, commissioning and performance guarantee test run of the sea water reverse osmosis plant, slated to be built in the premises of RIL’s refinery at Jamnagar, Gujarat.

New water plant in Menifee removes salt, fights drought – California

A plant that removes salt from water is now running in Menifee, giving officials another tool to reduce their reliance on imported water as California’s drought continues.

The Eastern Municipal Water District opened its third groundwater desalination plant, the Perris II Groundwater Desalination Facility.

The plant will remove salt from underground water basins tapped by wells in Perris — nearly 5.4 million gallons of water per day.

Egypt to build desalination plant in Iraq

An Egyptian delegation of water treatment experts visited Iraq this month for talks with Iraqi officials on addressing an acute water crisis in the Arab country.

The Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources said June 20 that the Egyptian delegation discussed a proposal for building a water desalination plant on the Euphrates River.

The station will be used to purify and desalinate seawater to help ease water shortages in southern Iraq.

A desalination plant powered by 100 per cent renewable energy is being worked out for the masterplanned Neom greenfield site.

Located in the Oxagon, its aim is to create a sustainable, abundant water supply for residential, industrial, and commercial use.

Enowa, the energy, water, and hydrogen subsidiary of Neom. signed a MoU with Japanese trading company, Itochu, and Veolia.

GS Inima on track for 2.4 trillion won seawater desalination project – Oman

GS Inima has kicked off a 2.4 trillion won seawater desalination project in Oman, the water treatment firm’s parent company GS E&C said Tuesday.

GS E&C said it signed contracts to raise a combined $130 million for the Barka 5 (IWP) project, ordered by Oman Power & Water Procurement Company.

The Korean firm plans to borrow 70 percent of the money from the Export-Import Bank of Korea and financial institutions in Oman.
