Peru building Lima’s first desalination plant

A Spanish concessionaire began construction on Lima’s first desalination plant, part of President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski’s bid to increase public spending in water infrastructure. The 308mn-sol (US$95mn) Provisur project in Lima’s Santa María district will benefit 100,000 residents in four seaside districts on the southern outskirts of the capital, state water utility Sedapal said in a statement. The 24-month initiative involves the 400lt/sec desalination plant, 260km of piping, a 180lt/sec sewerage treatment plant and a 780m underwater discharge pipeline, according to Sedapal. The facility will cover the districts of Punta Hermosa, Punta Negra, San Bartolo and Santa María, which […]

Desalination Curbs Water Scarcity in Coastal Regions – Iran

A considerable amount of potable water in northern and southern coastal towns is provided by water desalination units, the deputy head of the National Water and Wastewater Engineering Company said. „Some 55 desalination facilities, with a capacity of producing 129,000 cubic meters of water per day, supply water for consumption or irrigation to regions straddling the northern and southern coasts of Iran,“ Ali Asghar Qaneh was also quoted as saying by IRNA on Wednesday. According to the official, the units, completed at an estimated cost of $170 million, have been up and running since 2016. „Plans are in place […]

DME e.V.

„FCDI-Flow-Elektrode […]

Desalination plant increases production – Queensland – Austtalia

The Gold Coast Tugun Desalination Plant is increasing its production, while one of the Gold Coast’s traditional treatment plants is temporarily shut down. The Mudgeeraba water treatment plant has been temporarily shut down for critical infrastructure maintenance. Seqwater Acting Chief Executive Officer Jim Prus, said, “This is about being smart about how we use our water grid assets in the most effective and efficient way possible. “The desalination plant is the best option available to ensure the ongoing supply of a safe and reliable water supply while maintenance is conducted at the Mudgeeraba plant.”  The Gold Coast Desalination Plant […]

Conversion of Visible Light into Ionic Power Using Photoacid-Dye-Sensitized Bipolar Ion-Exchange Membranes

…

Here, we report a ∼60-fold increase in the photovoltage through use of a bipolar membrane structure consisting of a cation-exchange membrane affixed to an anion-exchange membrane. The junction between the layers was characterized in detail using electrochemistry, scanning electron microscopy, spectroscopy, and thermal gravimetric analysis. Our results represent considerable progress toward a device that directly converts sunlight into ionic electricity, which has implications for direct solar desalination of salt water. …

It has been over three-quarters of a century since the discovery of the semiconductor pn-junction diode, […]
