Plans for desalination plant in Cornwall delayed – England

South West Water (SWW) announced in March it was planning to have two desalination plants by this September.
The UNRWA also said that the desalination plant will also cease functioning. The water quality of Gaza has diminished and 90 per cent water was not suited for drinking purposes even before the war commenced.
The desalination plants, each boasting a daily capacity of 200,000 gallons, collectively amounting to an impressive 600,000 gallons, are poised to be instrumental in providing a sustainable water supply to the beleaguered area.
Sizewell C is expected to host two EPRs producing 3.2 GWe similar to the Hinkley Point C plant, under construction in Somerset. EDF Energy submitted a development consent order (a planning application) for the plant in May 2020, which was granted in July 2022. In March, the UK’s Environment Agency granted environmental permits – a radioactive substances activity permit, a combustion activity permit and a water discharge activity permit – for the plant.
Developed by Veolia in partnership with TotalEnergies, the plant is a significant milestone towards decarbonization efforts in the region as it will help cut about 27,200 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year, equivalent to the emissions generated by approximately 6,000 internal combustion engine-powered vehicles over the same period.
The TDS level, according to an official in 27 odd bore wells, has gone beyond 2,000 ppm. Several of the borewells have been shut in recent times, the official said. “Presently, various physical and chemical qualities such as TDS, PH, Nitrate, Iron, and Chloride are overshooting the permissible limits. We are taking adequate measures, including placing iron removers, before pumping the water to households,” said another official.
Each factory has a capacity of 200 thousand gallons per day for a total of 600 thousand gallons.
With this total, it is estimated that it can provide benefits to 300 thousand people per day.
“The production capacity of each factory is 200,000 gallons per day for a total of 600,000 gallons, providing benefits to 300,000 people per day,” said the WAM news agency.
H.E. Eng. Salim bin Nasser Al-Aufi, the Minister of Energy and Minerals in Oman, has officially inaugurated a 17-megawatt peak (MWp) solar photovoltaic (PV) farm designed to power the Sharqiyah Desalination Plant in Sur, Oman. This solar farm, the largest of its kind for a desalination facility in Oman, boasts an annual capacity of over 32,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of green electricity, which will cover the plant’s entire daytime consumption.
The efficiency is said to be 90.33 percent…
