Construction works for Tunisia’s Gargour Seawater Desalination Plant launched – Tunisia

The construction works of the Gargour seawater desalination plant (South Sfax) were kicked off by Prime Minister Najla Bouden on Friday, after a delay that lasted for several years due to corruption suspicions related to this project.

Although Former Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries Oussema Kheriji announced the launch of this project on July 29, 2020, construction works did not take place.

They were limited only to the installation of pipes and electrification. Then, in July 2020, the Metito, Orascom and Cobra consortium won the […]

Cost of Poseidon desalination water gets renewed scrutiny – California

Poseidon Water’s controversial proposal for a Huntington Beach desalination plant might cost water customers more than previously thought, a factor that could create a new obstacle to construction of the $1.4 billion project.

Word that the principal customer for the water, the Orange County Water District, was reexamining costs came from district General Manager Mike Markus on Thursday, March 31, at an OC Forum panel discussion on solutions to water shortages.

It’s one of several recent signs of emerging challenges for Poseidon, which needs a permit from the state […]

Chile desalination projects advance despite regulatory uncertainty – Chile

“We will see how this evolves over the next weeks or months, but there’s no doubt that we will have a new regulatory framework.

And that is making some short-term investors to await these results to see which road to take,” Carlos Foxley, chairman of Chilean desalination association Acades, told BNamericas. He said two regulatory pushes are happening in parallel.

One in the constitutional convention, which drafts a new constitution, is focused on overall water management, while the second push comes from the senate and concerns a […]

Solution & Environmental Challenge for Chile – Chile

The Pacific Ocean could quench the thirst caused by 10 years of drought in Chile, but the operation of desalination plants of various sizes has a long way to go to become sustainable and to serve society as a whole rather than just corporations.

Some twenty of these plants are already in operation providing desalinated water to small fishing communities, another three to the inhabitants of various municipalities and eight more to large mining companies, all but one of which are concentrated in Chile’s arid North.

The extensive development […]
