Acciona To Use Its Maestro AI Platform At Qatar Desalination Plant – Qatar

Spanish infrastructure and renewable energy giant Acciona won the contract for the design, construction, and O&M of the Umm Al Houl SWRO desalination plant in Qatar in 2015.

The plant will produce 564,000 m3 of desalinated water per day, enough to serve 1.1 million people, after the start-up of operations in April.

Acciona will fund an AI project at the facility from its dedicated decarbonization fund.

Floating PV for desalination – Spain

There are parts of the world in which basic resources such as water are limited. The authorities in the Canary Islands, for example, are unable to supply all the water needed for the archipelago’s population, industry, and agriculture without resorting to techniques such as desalination.

Solar power could be a cost-effective way to power desalination plants in the Canary Islands, but the archipelago has a limited amount of land for PV facilities.

A mix of high population density, irregular topography, protected natural areas, and dependence on tourism makes […]

Singapore invests in energy-efficient water desalination – Singapore

A new grant issued by Singapore’s National Water Agency, PUB, will help the country to improve energy efficiency and ensure reliable and flexible water desalination processes.

On behalf of the National Research Foundation, PUB has issued a $1.3 million grant to technology firm DuPont to determine how Closed Circuit Reverse Osmosis (CCRO) technology can be applied to desalination processes to make the purification of seawater more energy-efficient, flexible and reliable.

The development follows DuPont obtaining CCRO process technology with the acquisition of Desalitech Ltd. in January 2020.

Manhat to focus on natural water distillation – United Arab Emirates

Abu Dhabi-based startup Manhat is all set to focus on natural water distillation based on local innovation, said Dr Saeed Alhassan, founder, Manhat.

The startup is a deep technology venture that utilises patents with research and developments done in UAE to commercialise its technology.

„Our technology is based on physical sciences and not on computer programming like other startups. Additionally, companies working in the water domain are based on imported technologies compared to ours; which is based on local innovation,“ said Alhassan, who is a PhD holder in chemical […]

SoCal Desalination Plant Inches Towards Approval – California

In a rare and commendable display of political courage and common sense, California Governor Gavin Newsom has been working to finally grant permits to construct a second major seawater desalination plant on the Southern California Coast.

But don’t count on this new water source just yet. Despite clearing major hurdles, self-described environmentalists and their allies in the media haven’t surrendered.

The Los Angeles Times is doing everything it can to derail the project. In a February 26 article, the Times reports that “environmentalists” have serious concerns about the proposed plant, set to be constructed in […]
